| At present, the study of the macro-functional layout of the Ming Great Wall military defence system has been fruitful and has entered the late stage of research, but at the same time, due to the scarcity of micro-historical information, the study is also stuck in a bottleneck and difficult to be refined. In the future, the refinement of the micro-functional configuration of the Ming Great Wall military defence system, guided by different dimensional clues, will become one of the important directions for the related field to overcome difficulties and sustainable development. The thesis is based on the study of Xuanfu town from the perspective of toponymy and cultural studies, and attempts to explore the fine and comprehensive portrayal of the functional arrangement of the Ming Great Wall military defence system based on the property of ancient village names to characterise their original functions. The study finds that ancient village names can be used to explicitly characterise the functional configuration of the Ming Great Wall military defence system, and that the spatial precision of traditional studies up to the level of military forts can be further advanced to the precision of the smallest social unit, the village, thereby greatly enhancing the depth of relevant research.Firstly, through the interpretation of the concepts of the Ming Great Wall military defence system and the nine border military towns and the study of relevant literature,we understand the establishment of the nine border military towns and the connotation of the Ming Great Wall military settlement system, and analyse the characteristics and types of Ming Great Wall military settlements, with a focus on the Xuanfu town military settlement system, and summarise the functional structure of the Xuanfu town military settlement system through relevant research literature.Secondly, with Xuanfu Town as the research object, toponymy is used as the theoretical support for the study, and documentary analysis is used as the main research method to collect and summarise the analysis of the ancient villages of the Ming Dynasty in Xuanfu Town, mainly including the present-day names, ancient names and historical origins of the ancient villages.Further excavation of the functional attributes of its military settlement and analysis of the functional classification in the village system, mainly divided into military facilities and military logistical aids, including the logistical functions of cantonment, checkpoints, beacon stations, post stations, garrison families, cantonment grain, cantonment fields, kiln manufacturing, pastoral care, etc. The GIS and OWI map markers are then used to visually represent the different functional military settlements, establish a database of the functional layout of the Xuanfu town military settlement system, and finally present a map of the functional distribution of the Ming Great Wall Xuanfu town military settlement system. Finally, from the most microscopically refined scale, the Ming military functional layout ideas are studied in terms of military facilities and logistical support respectively, and the functional distribution characteristics of the village system in the Xuanfu Town military settlement system are analysed in an attempt to speculate and argue about the focus of the Ming military defence functions and the connotation of the ancient military ideas. The study of the "functional-spatial" systemic relationship of the Ming Great Wall military defence settlement system is a major direction and an important element in the study of the Great Wall as a whole, expanding the limitations in the understanding and protection of the cultural heritage of the Great Wall on the one hand and, more importantly, analysing the historical formation process of the Great Wall system on the other. The study of the relationship between the Great Wall system and the Great Wall is a major direction and an important element in the study of the Great Wall as a whole. In this way,the essence of the planning ideology of the Ming Great Wall military defence settlement system is reproduced and the historical and cultural connotations of the countryside are explored. |
