Abstract/Summary:
With the rapid development of the world’s cities,a series of problems and challenges in sustainable development of cities have been gradually exposed, such as unbalanced development, inefficient use of resources, environmental pollution, urban disasters, and proliferation of social conflicts, which not only affect the stable development of cities, but also affect the life and happiness of residents. Therefore, the study of sustainable urban development has gradually become a hot issue at home and abroad. This thesis takes Jinan, the capital of Shandong Province,as the research object, and based on the development requirements proposed by the Sustainable Cities and Communities(SDGs11)of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals(SDGs),five evaluation indicators were extracted from them to assess the neighborhood-scale sustainable development of the central city of Jinan in 2016 and 2020,and to explore the changes. This thesis first explores the urbanization status of the central city of Jinan from 2016-2020 using the percentage of developed land and population density of each neighborhood. Then the OD cost distance matrix was constructed based on OSM road data and POI data respectively, and the walkability index of each neighborhood was calculated by combining the distance decline law;the per capita land consumption of each neighborhood in the central city was calculated based on the highresolution image data combined with the population distribution data, and the global spatial autocorrelation analysis method was used to calculate the developed land aggregation degree of each neighborhood;the land use data, soil data, and slope data were used to calculate the surfaces runoff of each neighborhood under extreme storm conditions based on the SCS model;the PM2.5 concentration conditions of each neighborhood were counted using near-ground PM2.5 data.Based on the sustainability evaluation results, this thesis investigates the spatial pattern of sustainable development in the central city of Jinan using systematic clustering. Finally, the thesis uses regression analysis to calculate the relationship between sustainability evaluation results and urbanization indicators, and explores the impact caused by urbanization level on sustainable development. The following conclusions were obtained:(1)The urbanization process in the central city of Jinan is not too significant between 2016 and 2020,and the increase in developed land area and population density is not significant. The neighborhoods with the highest percentage of developed land and population density are concentrated in the central old city and the two neighborhoods near the eastern CBD adjacent to the old city.New developed land in the city between 2016 and 2020 is more pronounced near Changqing. The population density of the five southern neighborhoods in the central old city increases most significantly, and the population density of the eastern new city increases significantly more than that of the western new city, with the population center of gravity shifting to the east.In general, the urbanization rate of the central city is not fast in 4 years, and the new developed land near Changqing in the west is more, but the population center is shifting to the east.(2)The environmental quality and basic services in the central city of Jinan in 2020 compared to 2016 are significantly improved, but the risk of urban disasters increases. The sustainability characteristics of each neighborhood in the central city of Jinan in 2016 are relatively simple and can be divided into five categories;the old city has the richest basic services and the least land consumption per capita, but at the same time the lowest urban agglomeration and the most serious surface runoff and atmospheric pollution;the other neighborhoods have gradually reduced basic services, surface runoff and atmospheric pollution as the distance from these three neighborhoods increases, and urban agglomeration and land consumption per capita gradually increase. In 2020,12 categories of characteristics are needed to describe different patterns of neighborhood sustainability levels, and strong spatial differences emerge for all indicators except the neighborhood walkability index. In conclusion,in general, neighborhoods with better positive indicators will also have worse negative indicators.(3)The correlation analysis shows that urban residents and urban services prefer to"cluster" in areas with a high proportion of developed land, and this clustering effect is a fundamental factor leading to the formation and expansion of the city, but it will to some extent affect the development speed of newly developed neighborhoods, resulting in a shortage of basic services and facilities, making it difficult to attract and affect the sustainable development of the city.Keeping the percentage of developed land and population density in neighborhoods within a reasonable range can effectively improve the level of sustainable urban development.
