Abstract/Summary:
After the Renaissance,especially after the Enlightenment and Industrial Revolution,the separation of architectural engineering science and architecture,with architectural structural science as the main subject,promoted the development of architectural science on the one hand,and on the other hand,the separation of disciplines led to the separation of architectural form,architectural structure,and tectonics process.The contradiction between architectural form,structure,and tectonics process has become an important driving force for breaking the constraints of historical style and promoting the exploration of new architecture since the 19 th century.Structural rationalism,which faithfully expresses the structure in form,emerged as the times require and became the basis of orthodox modernism theory.The tectonics theory that emerged in the mid-19 th century,as the third path between modernism emphasizing technological expression and the revival of various historical styles,attempted to explore the organic combination of spiritual,emotional and cultural expression with structural and technological expression.In the 20 th century,the modern architectural movement emerged,and the theory of tectonics disappeared for a time.In the 1980 s,the contemporary tectonics trend emerged as the product of the dual criticism of modernism and postmodernism,emphasizing the integration of architectural design,architectural structure and tectonics technology,and advocating the expression of architectural structure and tectonics technology based on place and emotion.Entering the 21 st century,digital tectonics relying on emerging digital technologies has injected strong vitality into contemporary tectonics trends.Digital technology provides a powerful digital platform for the re integration of architectural structure design,tectonics,and architectural design.This article takes tectonics theory as the research perspective,and uses structural form finding as a tectonics method to integrate architectural design and architectural structure.It sorts out its historical context and operational methods,and summarizes the structural form finding methods in the contemporary digital context.This article reviews the development of tectonics theory and contemporary tectonics practices: from the early 17 th century when tectonics was first proposed as an architectural term,to the latter half of the 20 th century when it became an important architectural trend.Secondly,the historical context of traditional structural shape finding methods is summarized as stone cutting,mechanical graphical shape finding,static natural form simulation shape finding,and dynamic experimental simulation structural shape finding.Contemporary digital technology provides a digital platform for the re integration of architectural design,structural design,and tectonics processes,greatly expanding the thinking of architectural structural design.Structural shape finding design has a richer expression.In this thesis,the digital expansion of the traditional structural form finding method and the structural form finding method based on topology optimization are described,and the structural form finding method based on the digital platform is summarized.This article focuses on the concept of tectonics and advocates the optimization and integration of digital technology based architectural design,structural design,and tectonics process,providing new ideas for establishing a rational architectural design process.
