Abstract/Summary:
As China’s urbanization process enters the "second half," the core content of urban design in the new era should shift from serving the rise of the country,regional competition,and building city landmarks to focusing more on the lives of citizens.The core value of urban design should shift from "object-centered" to "people-centered." Therefore,for the research on the place-making strategy of the Hometown of Saint of Calligraphy historic block,the needs of the users of the historic block and their environmental perceptions should be the focus of the study.The complex relationship between the material environmental characteristics of the historic block and public perception should be captured,and an intuitive and sensory understanding of the historic block should be established.Directly targeting the improvement of the quality and atmosphere of the place has significant implications for improving the quality of urban living environment.Taking the Hometown of Saint of Calligraphy historic block in Shaoxing City as an example,this paper combines theoretical research and field research,uses in-depth interviews and grounded theory to identify the main influencing factors of the place perception in the Hometown of Saint of Calligraphy.Then,a quantitative research method of questionnaire survey,combined with the Likert scale method,is used to analyze the perceived degree of the influencing factors and existing problems in the Hometown of Saint of Calligraphy from the perspective of users.Finally,guided by the influencing factors,centered on the users,and supported by the author’s personal involvement in the planning and individual design of the core area of the Hometown of Saint of Calligraphy,this paper proposes a place-making strategy for the Hometown of Saint of Calligraphy historic block to make it truly readable,memorable,experiential,activated,and renewable through the creation and strengthening of the sense of place.
