The development of urbanization has gradually reduced the opportunities for children in cities to have direct contact with natural plant spaces,while plants are important carrier for introducing nature into the urban environment which can also mobilize children’s various sensory development and promote their physical and mental health.In the background of the development of concepts such as child-friendly cities and life education,plant landscapes carry more and more functions.By giving play to the value of the plant landscape,guiding children to play interactive games with plants is of great significance to urban children’s natural experience,the shaping of natural views,and the harmonious symbiosis between man and nature.Based on the affordance theory and research on children’s outdoor games,this research firstly distributes online questionnaires to investigate the interactive games between Chinese children and plants and analyzes the value of plants’ affordance to children,so as to understand children’s preferences and generations,and then clarifies the general situation and needs of contemporary children’s interactive games with plants.Secondly,the research takes a typical community park as an example to explore the interactive play between children and plants under different plant characteristics and landscape characteristics through methods such as behavior observation,behavior annotation,questionnaires,and structured interview.And analyzes the occurrence level of plant affordance to clarify its preferences and influencing factors.Then the research proposes appropriate promotion strategies based on the current research situation and different spatial properties and game characteristics,starting from the promotion of interactive games between children and plants.The results of generational differences show that gender,family structure,and the natural degree of the living environment will all affect the interactive game between children and plants;between different generations,the preferred play locations are different.The frequency and duration of children’s games of the three generations show a downward trend from generation to generation,but the frequency of interaction near the residential area has always been at a relatively high level.The affordance of community parks and green spaces for children’s games shows that children use plants to develop functional games that occur the most;compare the occurrence of plant affordance under various plant organs(leaf,branch,flower,fruit,stem),different Plant placement method(Dense forests,sparse forests,flower beds,tree arrays,solitary trees,flower hedges,etc.),and other factors in different environments(Soil,paving,roads,planting containers,setting stones,steps,etc)summarized the characteristics of plant organs,application methods and environmental factors with high availability.On this basis,with the goal of increasing the frequency of children’s interactive games with plants,strategies and methods such as plant selection and spatial vitality enhancement are proposed for the characteristics and needs of children’s interactive games with plants in open,semi-open,and private spaces.
