Recently, the worldwide crustal movement is active and seismicity is frequent, especially the Turkey earthquake in February 2023,which has caused huge personal injury and property loss.China is located in a geographical location with many seismic zones, and earthquakes are also very frequent. The ancient brick and stone pagodas in China have gone through a long period of time, accounting for a large proportion of existing ancient buildings in China. The materials used are mainly brittle materials such as brick blocks and stones, which are prone to brittle failure due to compression or tension under seismic loads.Studying the seismic dynamic response of ancient brick and stone towers and protecting them is of great significance for preserving China’s historical and cultural heritage. This article selects a brick and stone ancient tower in the coastal area of Guangdong as the research object. On the one hand, based on the differences in building materials of brick and stone ancient towers in different regions and periods; On the other hand, there are high intensity seismic zones in the coastal areas of Guangdong, and understanding the seismic response and reinforcement repair of ancient pagodas in this area has become an urgent problem to be solved. For this type of ancient tower, this article conducts finite element software modeling and seismic numerical simulation analysis based on ABAQUS,and conducts research on additional structural reinforcement technology based on the seismic response of brick and stone ancient towers. The main research content is as follows:(1)A brick and stone ancient pagoda in the coastal area of Guangdong Province was surveyed on the spot and scanned by 3D laser point cloud, supplemented by aerial photography modeling,to obtain its 3D geometric modeling. And based on the mechanical performance information of the tower body materials, the finite element analysis model is established according to the three-dimensional geometric modeling.(2)The recent earthquake in Turkey was used to compare the characteristics with ordinary ground motions, and the elastic-plastic time history analysis was carried out on the ancient pagoda to investigate the earthquake damage of the ancient pagoda under two types of earthquakes.(3)Based on the seismic damage situation of the ancient pagoda,an additional functional reinforcement method is proposed, which combines an external elevator and a soft steel connection as an additional structural method.Based on ABAQUS,seismic performance analysis is conducted to explore the feasibility of using it as a reinforcement measure for the brick and stone ancient pagoda.
