Research On The Spillover Effect Of Residents’ Environmental Behavior On The Green Management Of Enterprises

Environmental problems are essentially caused by people and also can be changed by people.In recent years,the spillover effect of residents’ environmental behavior has become a research topic at the forefront of management.Residents’ environmental behavior refers to the environmental behavior of the public in the field of life due to compulsory regulation or voluntary willing.It will have an impact on their private environmental behavior,such as saving water and using environmental products,and also have a spillover effect on public environmental behavior,such as joining environmental organizations and supporting environmental policies.However,in order to maximize the benefits of environmental actions,will the environmental behaviors of residents spill over to enterprises at different levels,prompting enterprises to improve their environmental performance? Based on the above considerations,this paper carries out theoretical thinking and empirical test,and studies the spillover effect of residents’ environmental behavior on enterprises’ green management and its realization mechanism.This paper takes A-share non-financial listed companies in Shanghai and Shenzhen Stock Exchange from 2010 to 2019 as samples and takes "publicorganization-enterprise" as the research idea to discuss the spillover effect of residents’ environmental behavior on corporate green management,the realization mechanism and the influence of enterprise heterogeneity on the spillover effect.The results show that:(1)residents’ environmental behavior has a positive spillover effect on enterprises’ green management,which is embodied in reducing illegal pollution,increasing green innovation and improving environmental information disclosure;(2)Public supervision plays an intermediary role in spillover effect.Specifically,environmental ngos(ENGO)play an intermediary role in reducing illegal pollution,increasing green innovation and improving environmental information disclosure,but media attention only plays an intermediary role in improving environmental information disclosure;(3)Corporate political correlation has a moderating effect on spillover effect.Specifically,it weakens(strengthens)the positive spillover of mandatory residents’ environmental behavior to green innovation(environmental information disclosure),and the moderating effect is different between central political association and local political association.By studying the spillover effect of residents’ environmental behavior on enterprises’ green management,theoretically,this paper breaks through the singularity of the subject and context of spillover effect study,and provides reference for the crosslevel spillover effect study from the public to enterprises.Moreover,it integrates the management theory at the enterprise level and the theoretical analysis of rights at the public level,enriching the framework of the spillover effect study system.Practically,this paper emphasizes the dominant position of residents in environmental protection and calls on decision-making departments to make better use of the "leverage effect" played by the positive spillover effect to promote the rational allocation of social resources.
