Since the reform and opening up,the proportion of China’s GDP in the world economy has been increasing,and the economic take-off has laid a solid material foundation for the implementation of urbanisation in China,while also making the contradiction between the demand for resources,economic development and ecological environment in the construction industry intensify,which seriously hinders the breakthrough of the industry,restricts economic development and endangers the ecological environment.As we enter a new era,the crude development model has been gradually abandoned,and high-quality development models such as green construction and intelligent construction,which reduce the negative impact of the building construction process,are gradually entering the public eye and being accepted by society and the market.The high quality development of the economy cannot be achieved without science and technology,and technological innovation is a powerful driving force for the high quality development of the economy.Based on this,it is urgent to consider how to improve the efficiency of green technological innovation in the construction industry and to explore the threshold effect between the efficiency of green technological innovation and environmental regulation in the construction industry.Therefore,this paper takes this as the starting point to study the efficiency and threshold effect of green technology innovation in the construction industry on a provincial basis,so as to promote the coordinated development of green technology innovation in China’s regional construction industry.Based on relevant theories such as environmental regulation theory,green technology innovation theory and threshold theory,this paper selects 31 provinces and cities in China from 2017-2021 as the research objects.Firstly,a three-stage DEA model is scientifically constructed to measure the efficiency of green technological innovation in the construction industry,with input indicators from the perspectives of human and financial resources,output indicators from the perspectives of knowledge creation and economic benefits,and the level of economic development,the degree of government support and the degree of marketization as environmental variables to measure the level of green technological innovation in the construction industry in each province and region.Finally,based on the calculation results of green technology innovation efficiency in the construction industry and the threshold effect between environmental regulations and green technology innovation in the construction industry,we explore the ways to improve the efficiency of green technology innovation in the construction industry in each province in terms of guarantee mechanisms and policy recommendations.Finally,based on the calculation results and the threshold effect between environmental regulation and green technology innovation in the construction industry,we explore the ways to improve the efficiency of green technology innovation in the construction industry in each province in terms of guarantee mechanisms and policy recommendations,and provide theoretical guidance for governmental decision-making.The study shows that there are significant differences in green technology innovation in China’s construction industry,with lower levels of green technology innovation in the construction industry between provinces and vice versa for municipalities.Appropriate government support stimulates the potential and capacity for green technology innovation in the construction industry and reduces the redundancy of R&D personnel full-time equivalents and daily expenditure on R&D funding,with the opposite being true for the level of economic development and the degree of marketisation.Environmental regulation has a double threshold and a significant ’V’ shape on green technology innovation in the construction industry in all provinces of China.The degree of foreign trade development has an inhibiting effect on green technology innovation in the construction industry.Based on this,the government should adjust the threshold value of environmental regulations flexibly according to the actual situation of each province and the problems of green technology innovation in the construction industry in China,and make feasible suggestions from the perspective of improving the efficiency of green technology innovation in the construction industry,so as to provide new ideas for the development of green construction industry in China and ultimately achieve high-quality economic development.
