Air pollution is one of the serious environmental problems facing our country, which has varying degrees of impact on human health and social and economic development.Commercial health insurance is an important insurance product, which aims to provide people with comprehensive health protection, including medical security, health management, health consultation and other services.it is an important part of the construction of residents’ health care system in our country. With the increasing demand for health insurance, the market scale and premium income of commercial health insurance are also increasing. However, the impact of air pollution on health is also increasing.Whether this will have an impact on the demand for commercial health insurance is a question worth discussing. Therefore, combining the above two hot spots, this thesis will discuss from the aspects of the overview of air pollution, the overview of commercial health insurance, the impact of air pollution on health, the impact of air pollution on the demand of commercial health insurance, and the development trend of commercial health insurance,in order to provide useful references and suggestions for the development of commercial health insurance market. On the whole, taking into account the long-term and sustainable impact of air pollution on the demand for commercial health insurance,as well as the continuity of the development of commercial health insurance in China, this study selected the industrial sulfur dioxide emissions of 165 prefecture-level cities from 2005 to 2019 as explanatory variables, and used a fixed effect model to systematically analyze its impact on commercial health insurance demand. In the model design, the first-order lag term of the explained variable is added to consider the persistence of air pollution and the timeliness of commercial health insurance, and the impact of air pollution on residents’ commercial health insurance demand is discussed from the current and long-term point of view.In order to improve the robustness and accuracy of the model, this thesis also introduces the control variables of regional economy, residents’ income, education and population into the model, and uses the method of replacing the explained variables to test the robustness of the model. The results show that air pollution has a significant impact on residents’ commercial health insurance demand, and its coefficient shows different performance in different periods. In the current period, air pollution has an inhibitory effect on residents’ health insurance demand, while it plays a long-term role in promoting residents’ health insurance demand. In addition,on the basis of the above research, this thesis makes a heterogeneity analysis based on the north and south regions.the study shows that the impact in the north is more significant because of the serious air pollution, while in the south, the demand for commercial health insurance is more obviously affected by air pollution. Finally, this thesis empirically analyzes the correlation between air pollution and life insurance demand, which further expands the research content.Based on the empirical results of this thesis,in order to give better play to the protection role of health insurance and promote the development of commercial health insurance, this thesis puts forward the following suggestions: more attention should be paid to the protection of respiratory diseases in the design of health insurance products;special health services attract consumers;regional and environmental factors are taken into account in product pricing;multiple measures to govern the environment.
