In the current process of world development, environmental issues are widely concerned by all countries. With the rapid development of China’s economy, environmental problems are becoming increasingly prominent, and the problems of resource scarcity, ecological damage and environmental pollution are very serious. For a long time,China’s economic development relies on the sloppy growth model of high input, high consumption and high pollution, which makes China pay a heavy price in resources and environment while its rapid economic growth.Hubei Province,as one of the key provinces of the Central Rising Strategy, has seen rapid development of foreign trade since the reform and opening up,but it is still dominated by the rough and loose growth. With the acceleration of industrialization and urbanization, the development of trade has also brought a series of environmental problems.Based on this, this paper investigates the impact of environmental regulation on export trade in Hubei Province through qualitative and quantitative methods, using theories related to environmental regulation and international trade. In the empirical analysis, the sample size of Hubei Province for the past 20 years is selected for OLS regression and the mediating effect model is used to test the impact of environmental regulation on export trade in Hubei Province, the impact of environmental regulation on technological innovation and whether environmental regulation promotes technological innovation and thus indirectly promotes exports. The main findings include:(1)environmental regulation has a positive effect on technological innovation.(2)Environmental regulation has a "U-shaped" effect on export trade in Hubei Province in the short run, which inhibits and promotes export trade in the long run;(3)The effect of environmental regulation on export trade is influenced by technological innovation as a mediating variable.Based on the above findings, the paper concludes by proposing countermeasures at three levels: government, enterprises, and the public, and provides suggestions for a more scientific and reasonable environmental protection policy to achieve a win-win situation for both environment and export trade. |
