| In recent years, with the advancement of economic globalization,in order to strengthen communication with the outside world,China has accelerated the pace of opening up to the outside world, and the total amount of attracting foreign investment has been increasing year by year, providing effective driving force support for China’s economic development. The report of the 19 th National Congress of the Communist Party of China proposed to lead China’s economic development with technological innovation, pointing out the future development path. However, before the continuous improvement of economic level, the drawbacks of the extensive economic growth model gradually emerged. Some regions did not screen the quality of foreign investment when it was introduced, resulting in the existence of the "pollution paradise" phenomenon, making environmental pollution problems increasingly prominent. Moreover,China is currently in the stage of industrial structure transformation, optimizing industrial structure,Adjusting the development mode of enterprises and reducing pollutant emissions will become a key issue of national concern. In recent years, the Chinese government has strengthened its efforts in environmental governance and raised the entry standards for foreign investment, which has achieved certain results. However, there is still a certain distance from the beautiful living environment we expect. Therefore, studying the internal impact mechanism of technological innovation and FDI on environmental pollution, and finding ways to improve technological innovation and reduce environmental pollution,is crucial for achieving high-quality development of China’s economy.Based on the product life cycle theory, endogenous growth theory and Schumpeter innovation theory, this paper brings technological innovation,FDI and environmental pollution into the same research framework, and analyzes the mechanism of the three. This paper uses the entropy weight method to calculate the environmental pollution indicators, and uses the panel data of 30 provinces(except Tibet)in China from2005 to 2020 to make an empirical analysis of the mesomeric effect and threshold effect.Firstly, based on relevant theoretical analysis, five hypotheses are proposed regarding the possible relationship between the three.Secondly,by visually reflecting the current situation and development trends of technological innovation,FDI,and environmental pollution through charts,it is found that the level of technological innovation and FDI is increasing year by year, while the level of environmental pollution is decreasing year by year. Finally, the relationship between the three is empirically tested.Through empirical analysis,it is found that FDI plays a part of intermediary role in the process of environmental pollution caused by technological innovation, and the mesomeric effect has regional heterogeneity. The threshold effect test was conducted using FDI as a threshold variable to further explore the nonlinear effects of technological innovation and FDI on environmental pollution. The threshold results show that technological innovation has a threshold effect on environmental pollution based on FDI,indicating that there is a significant difference in the impact of technological innovation on environmental pollution when the level of FDI is different. When FDI crosses 1.6302,technological innovation has a certain improvement effect on environmental pollution as the level of FDI increases.According to the research results of this article, policy implications can be drawn:continue to increase opening up to the outside world and improve the entry standards for foreign investment;Pay attention to industrial structure adjustment and improve resource allocation rate;Improving technological innovation capabilities, narrowing regional disparities, and emphasizing policy tilt by the government to accelerate the enhancement of innovation capabilities of enterprises in the western region;Increase environmental publicity, strengthen environmental regulations, and reduce pollution levels. |
