With the rapid development of urban economy, industries are more closely related to each other, and thus industries tend to develop in the form of clusters.Manufacturing industry occupies an important role in the development of a country or region, and is even the foundation of production on which a country or region relies, and China,as a major manufacturing country, manufacturing agglomeration on the one hand to promote China’s overall industrialization process,to promote China’s regional economic growth, but on the other hand also paid a high environmental price, resulting in a sharp increase in emissions of pollutants such as sulfur dioxide."Deeply fight the battle of pollution prevention and control, establish a sound environmental governance system, collaborate to reduce pollution and carbon emissions, continue to reduce the total emissions of major pollutants, and continuously improve the ecological environment" is the 14 th Five-Year Plan on green development requirements. In the 20 th National Congress,General Secretary Xi Jinping put forward the important instructions of "promoting green development" and "accelerating green transformation".In this paper, the current hot topic of manufacturing agglomeration and urban green economic efficiency in the context of green sustainable development,we have attempted to analyze the following issues: Does manufacturing agglomeration enhance the efficiency of the green economy? What is the pattern between them? What are the spatial transmission mechanisms involved? Following a review of the literature and based on grounded theory,we further explored the mechanisms of the role of manufacturing agglomeration on the efficiency of the green economy. This paper uses the panel data of282 cities in China from 2005 to 2020 as the research sample, and uses the location entropy to test the level of manufacturing agglomeration and the Super-SBM model to measure the green economic efficiency,It also analyzes the time series evolutionary characteristics, spatial differentiation characteristics and the current status of urban class differences between them. Finally, the relationship between manufacturing agglomeration and green economic efficiency is empirically investigated using the spatial panel Durbin model, followed by exploring the effects of heterogeneity among regions, city classes and city sizes, and further introducing the interaction terms of manufacturing agglomeration and advanced labor force, green technological innovation and marketoriented environment to explore the moderating roles of the three in the relationship between manufacturing agglomeration and green economic efficiency. The research indicates that:(1)There is a clear regional difference between urban green economic efficiency and industrial agglomeration.China’s manufacturing sector exhibits characteristics of agglomeration and continuous growth focused on cities in the eastern coastal region to the central and western regions from 2005 to 2020,and China’s green economic efficiency exhibits a W-shaped fluctuating change trend of "down-up-down-up" and it clearly demonstrates regional differences.(2)The link between manufacturing agglomeration and urban green economic efficiency exhibits a notable "inverted U" curve.Additionally, there is a sizable spatial spillover effect between the two, which suggests that nearby cities have an impact on one another.(3)while green technological innovation has a negative moderating effect, labor sophistication and market environment have a positive moderating effect between manufacturing agglomeration and green economic efficiency, and the interaction between the three moderating variables and manufacturing agglomeration has a positive effect on urban green economic efficiency. |
