Capital Endowment,Green Cognitionand Cleaner Production Behavior Of Pig Farmers

The development of China’s traditional pig breeding industry is at the cost of ecological environment destruction,such as a large amount of veterinary drugs,feed additives and other chemicals,substandard manure treatment,improper treatment of sick and dead livestock,etc.,which poses a serious threat to livestock safety and human health.Therefore,it is imperative to change the development mode of traditional pig breeding industry and realize clean production of pig industry.Pig farmers,as micro-subjects of agricultural production and operation,possess natural and acquired resources and capabilities,which will have a certain impact on their perception of resources and environment,knowledge of resources and environment,and consciousness of social responsibility,and then have an impact on their subjective intentions and behavioral decisions.Based on the micro survey data of pig farmers in Linyi City,Shandong Province,and on the basis of literature review,field investigation and interviews with local agricultural experts,this paper adopted the Ordered Probit model,taking the adoption of cleaner production behaviors of pig farmers as the dependent variable,and capital endowment including economic capital,human capital and social capital as the independent variable.Gender,age,years of raising pigs,whether they are Party members or not,and the degree of local policy incentives were the control variables to study the influence of capital endowment on pig farmers’ cleaner production behavior.Through establishing the intermediary effect model,the influence mechanism of green cognition on capital endowment and pig farmers’ cleaner production behavior adoption was analyzed.The results showed that:(1)Economic capital,human capital,social capital and some control variables had significant effects on cleaner production behavior of pig farmers;(2)According to the process of mediating effect test,it is concluded that economic capital,human capital and social capital have positive and significant effects on environmental cognition and policy perception of mediating variables;(3)Through the significance test of mediating effect test,the regression results show that capital endowment indirectly affects farmers’ green production behavior through green cognition,and there is a partial mediating effect of "capital endowment → green cognition → pig farmers’ cleaner production behavior".In order to improve the adoption of cleaner production behavior by pig farmers in Linyi City,the government should designate specific incentive policies that can be implemented,increase the publicity of cleaner production,and carry out technical skills training of cleaner production.Management subject should strengthen their own learning,improve the level of clean production cognition;In terms of social environment,it gives full play to the role of platforms related to cleaner production such as associations and alliances,vigorously promotes the application of cleaner production technology and equipment such as source reduction,process control and end treatment,and quicken the industrialization development of key generic technology and equipment of cleaner production,so as to improve the practical problems of mismatch between breeding pollution and environmental carrying capacity brought by pig breeding at present.To speed up the popularization of cleaner production by pig farmers,reduce the pollution caused by pig breeding,improve the quality and safety level of pork,and promote the sustainable,healthy and stable development of pig breeding industry and even animal husbandry industry.
