| Postmodern art inherits the core ideas of postmodernist philosophy and literary theory, focusing on ambiguity and emphasizing the multiple meanings of things, thus forming an aesthetic principle of compatibility. This principle is highly compatible with the ever-changing style of the fashion industry. At the same time, fashion design has been moving between art and non-art since ancient times, emphasizing industrialized production and deeply engraved individuality.Especially in today’s multicultural and social environment, fashion design is increasingly concerned with constructing personal identities, such as geography, race, and gender, and is full of changes. The concept of postmodern art can help capture some aspects of such cultural shifts. Therefore, compared to the idealization and purity of modernist design, the fashion styling design under the diverse style of postmodern art brings more interest and meaning to the interpretation level and resonates with the current state of life and fashion themes. The article is firstly based on postmodern thinkers’ classic theories and ideological claims, aiming to identify a unified research context from the diverse postmodern issues. On this basis,a theoretical and empirical research path is developed from the perspectives of postmodern art history and fashion styling design history to explore the relevance between postmodern art and fashion design through extensive case studies and comparative analysis and to analyze the meaning construction and social reality value of such design works. Finally,by combining the playful meaning fields of postmodern art contexts, the article tries to describe the enlightening processes and messages with a more contemporary perspective to explore the opportunities of future apparel design. The article avoids focusing solely on the material aspects of clothing as a means of analysis but focuses on its social and symbolic significance in an interdisciplinary context. In addition, due to the non-systematic nature of postmodern costume culture, the appearance characteristics, historical extraction, and narrative means of clothing also show more obvious reciprocity. Therefore,it is necessary to flexibly use macro-theory and micro-detail to consider fashion styling design under the influence of postmodern art context as a series of symbolic "languages" to provide a multi-perspective theoretical reference for related research. |
