Abstract/Summary:
Green development has gradually become the main theme of future development, and promoting green development is an inevitable requirement for achieving high-quality economic development.Since the concept of green development was first put forward at the Fifth Plenary Session of the 18 th CPC Central Committee,China’s emphasis on green development has only increased. However, resource and environment problems are still outstanding, and the green development path faces severe challenges. How to increase the green attribute of economic development while maintaining our economic growth has become the focus of scholars’ research. The development of green economy should consider not only domestic driving factors, but also foreign driving factors. With the implementation of the strategy of "domestic and international double cycle",how to effectively utilize foreign investment to better connect the "domestic and international double cycle" and promote the green development of domestic economy has become an important issue. The Yangtze River Delta is one of the regions with the highest degree of openness towards the outside world and the best prospects for economic development. It plays an important role in the regional economic development of our country, and its development pattern plays a model role in the economic development of other regions. Therefore,it is of great theoretical and practical significance to systematically explore the impact of foreign direct investment on the efficiency of green development in the Yangtze River Delta urban agglomeration. This paper first reviews the relevant theories and existing research results of foreign direct investment and green development efficiency, and then analyzes the influence mechanism of foreign direct investment on green development efficiency.Secondly, six element inputs were innovatively adopted to build an evaluation index system of green development efficiency, and a Super-SBM-Undesirable model based on undesirable outputs and GML index measure were used to analyze the spatial-temporal change characteristics of green development efficiency of 27 core cities in the Yangtze River Delta urban agglomeration. Finally, the spatial econometric model and geographically weighted regression model are used to empirically analyze the impact of foreign direct investment on the efficiency of green development in the Yangtze River Delta urban agglomeration from 2009 to 2020.The main conclusions are as follows: first, the overall green development efficiency of the Yangtze River Delta urban agglomeration presents a U-shaped trend, and the improvement of green development efficiency in recent years mainly depends on technological progress;Second, foreign direct investment in the Yangtze River Delta urban agglomeration has a significant negative effect on the green development efficiency, and has a significant negative spillover effect on the surrounding cities, but the negative effect is not strong.Third,at the end of the study period, the negative effect of foreign direct investment on the efficiency of green development in the Yangtze River Delta urban agglomeration is weakening, especially in the eastern coastal cities.Based on this, this paper puts forward the following suggestions:(1)Improve the level of green coordinated development of the Yangtze River Delta urban agglomeration;(2)Optimize the quality of foreign direct investment;(3)Promoting the transformation and upgrading of the industrial structure;(4)Continuous improvement of technological innovation capability;(5)Improving environmental governance.
