| As a model of traditional Chinese furniture, the chairs of Ming and Qing dynasties have distinctive styles and diverse shapes, and their morphological expressions are the focus of contemporary scholars’ research. In this project,324 pieces of chairs from the Ming and Qing dynasties were collected and arranged as sample materials. The chairs were divided into several categories, such as the head, the back, the seat, the armrest, the leg,the tooth and the door, and then combined with the multiple response analysis and the chi-square test in the SPSS software to analyze the differences in the performance of the main components of chair furniture in different periods. The purpose of this research is to make people have a deeper understanding of the furniture of Ming and Qing dynasties. The main methods of data analysis and induction, literature research and analysis, software analysis and comparative analysis are used in this project. The main research contents are as follows:Firstly, the relevant concepts in the text are defined.Through the method of data analysis and induction, the development and morphological characteristics of Ming and Qing dynasty chair furniture are outlined, the definition of Ming and Qing dynasty chair furniture and its morphology are clarified, and the seats are divided into four categories:backrest chair, armchair, circle chair and cross chair. The characteristics of each type of chair are summarized through the literature research analysis method. In addition,SPSS software is briefly introduced to outline the method of using spss software in furniture research and how to combine SPSS software with this research,as well as the advantages of SPSS software in the study of chair furniture morphology in Ming and Qing dynasties.Next, the morphology of the main components of Ming and Qing dynasty chair furniture is studied.Starting from the laminated brain, backboard, armrests, seat surface, legs and feet, teeth and door posts,we systematically summarize the characteristics of their shapes, decorative motifs and carving techniques according to their own characteristics. It is concluded that even if different types of seats have the same components, they differ in their morphological expression. Then, from the statistical point of view, the morphological performance of the main components of the Ming and Qing chairs is analyzed differently. The textual descriptions of the morphological characteristics of Ming and Qing chairs were first quantified, and then analyzed using SPSS software. It was found that there were statistical differences between the Ming and Qing dynasties in the morphological performance of some components of the backrest chairs, armchairs and lap chairs:First, there were significant differences in the performance of the backrest chairs in terms of the structure of the lap brain, the material of the backrest plate and seat surface, and the cross-section of the legs and feet.Second, there are significant differences in the construction of the armchair in terms of the performance, shape, and type of materials used in the construction of the brain, the material of the backboard, the structural form, the shape, the selection of the material of the seat surface, the cross-sectional performance of the legs, the linear performance, the external contour, the morphological style of the teeth, and the composition of the door posts. There is a statistically significant difference in the shape of the backrest panel between the three chairs. In addition,it was found that there were statistically significant differences between the Ming and Qing dynasties in the decoration of the chairs. Finally, the reasons for the variability of the components are outlined based on the variability results derived from the software analysis combined with relevant literature. This project intends to provide a clearer perception of the furniture forms of Ming and Qing dynasties chairs through by applying statistics to design science. The analysis of the variability of the morphology of the components of Ming and Qing dynasty chairs can,to a certain extent, provide reference and help in the study of the interdependence. |
