| Insects are an extremely important group in the animal kingdom, with around a million known species, accounting for three quarters of all animal species, and they play a pivotal role in the entire biosphere with their rich variety and huge population size, and are closely related to human existence.Works of art using insects as elements have been created throughout human civilisation, with artists and craftspeople creating insect art from ancient times to the present day.Today, insects are often portrayed on vessels or porcelain plates. There are many more features in insects that can be used as inspiration and they should not be limited to flat paintings. The possibilities for creating more diverse ceramic art effects, using a variety of materials to express ceramic art,and using ceramics to realise multiple expressions of insects are what I have been exploring and practising in my postgraduate studies. The aim is to bring new possibilities to the creation of ceramic art, without being bound by the limitations of traditional subjects, techniques and materials. This paper will outline and analyse the development of insect culture and insect research at home and abroad, and provide examples of insect-themed artwork expression and insect-themed decorative art expression. The paper will also look at the content of the ideas expressed in artworks derived from insects as objects of creation, and the different artistic effects presented by different forms of materials. Finally, the process of practising ceramic artworks based on the author’s research and analysis of insects. The insects are used as the theme, and the relief ceramic panels are used as the form, with the addition of ceramic, lacquer, gold leaf, metal and electroplating. The aim is to present a unique style of ceramic decoration, where the combination of ceramic techniques, lacquer techniques and integrated materials add a touch of charm to the ceramic creation. |
