Objective: The adsorption of creatinine will be improved by the modified activated carbon, and the influence factors of adsorption will be investigated. Methods: The modified treatment of activated carbon will be carried out by nitric acid, the surface chemical composition and pore size structure distribution will be characterized by Bohem titration method and static nitrogen adsorption method,The effect of activated carbon on creatinine adsorption will be investigated at 37 ℃,The effects of p H,temperature, initial concentration, shaking speed and dosing amount on creatinine adsorption will be investigated. Results: 1.After the coal charcoal is modified by nitric acid, the total acidic functional group on the surface of the coal carbon is significantly improved,The increase in the number of carboxyric functional groups is the most obvious, and the lactone group and phenolic hydroxyl group increases less;after the modification the microporous volume of activated carbon decreases and the mesoporous volume increases. The modification time is extended, and the micropore volume and mesoporous volume are reduced. The total acidic functional groups on the surface of coconut shell are significantly increased, the phenolic hydroxycarboxyl group increases most obviously, and the carboxyl and lactone groups increases less;after modification the microporous volume of activated carbon decreases and the mesoporous volume increases.2.The adsorption of creatinine on the modified activated carbon is greatly elevated due to their modification.3.With the increase of temperature, its adsorption of creatinine also increases.4.With the increase of the initial concentration, the adsorption of activated carbon to creatinine increases.5.With the increase of oscillation speed, the adsorption of activated carbon to creatinine increases.6.With the increase of the amount of dosing, the adsorption of activated carbon to creatinine decreases.7.Isothermal experiments show that the Freundlich model can well describe the adsorption behavior of activated carbon to creatinine, and indicate the non-homogeneity of activated carbon media. Conclusion: Nitric acid modified activated carbon increases the acidic oxygen-containing functional group on the surface of activated carbon, and the microporous volume of coal-based carbon decreases and the mesoporous volume increases. The modification time is extended, and the micropore volume and mesoporous volume are reduced. The increase of total acidic functional groups increased the adsorption of creatinine by activated charcoal, and the adsorption temperature, initial concentration of creatinine and shaking speed could increase the adsorption of creatinine by activated carbon.
