At present, the loss of biological diversity is an universal phenomenon around the world. How to protect biodiversity effectively is a problem with practical significance.Terrestrial wildlife is an important part of biodiversity, and the stability of their diversity of species has an important research value. The species under special protection among terrestrial wildlife are usually those with special value, peculiar and rare species among wild animals, which are often more sensitive and fragile. To overcome the problems of its protection are a key step in the biodiversity conservation strategy. This study takes the terrestrial wildlife under special protection in Hubei Province as the research object, and has analyzed the status of their resources and their conservation gaps with the method of ArcGIS software and MaxEnt model(maximum entropy model). In the hope of putting forward some valuable suggestions for the protection of the terrestrial wildlife under special protection in Hubei Province. The results are as follows:(Ⅰ)The status of resources of the terrestrial wildlife under special protection1.Referring to the List of Key Protected Wildlife in China(2021)and combining with literature reviewing, historical investigation and research and field investigation in this study,we suggest there are 178 species of terrestrial wildlife under special protection in Hubei Province, which belong to 4 classes,23 orders, and 52 families.Among them, there are 25 species of Mammalia,142 species of Birds,9 species of Amphibians, and 2 species of Reptiles.2.In this study,a total of 96 species of entities are investigated in the field investigation.Among these species,4 species(Leiothrix lutea,Garrulax canorus,Centropus bengalensis, and Chrysolophus pictus)are the most widely distributed in 51-150 grids;9 species such as Halcyon smyrnensis,Garrulax elliotii, and Prionailurus bengalensis are widely distributed, and are distributed in 21-50 grids;16 species such as Anser cygnoid,Centropus sinensis and Hydrophasianus chirugus are generally distributed in 11-20 grids;a total of 67 species have been surveyed in 1-10 grids with a narrow distribution range.Among them,22 species were investigated in only one grid, and the distribution was extremely narrow. In this study, the research on the hotspots of distribution of key protected animals and the hotspots of suitable areas found that the distribution hotspots of key protected animals and hotspots of suitable areas are mainly distributed in the Wuling Mountains, followed by the Daba Mountains.3.Among the 96 species investigated in field, the populations of 12 species(Cygnus columbianus,Garrulax canorus,Leiothrix lutea, etc.)are abundant which are all above 10000;the populations of 18 species(Platalea leucorodia,Pucrasia macrolopha,Lophura nycthemera, etc.)are large which are all above 1000;however,the populations of 24 species(Macaca mulatta,Nyctereutes procyonoides,Ursus thibetanus, etc.)are general which are above 100;the populations of 20 species such as Anser erythropus,Cygnus cygnus, and Nettapus coromandelianus are relatively small, less than 100.4.According to the study on the geographical distribution pattern of species diversity of the terrestrial wildlife under special protection in Hubei Province,Daba Mountain has the highest diversity of species, followed by Wuling Mountain, and Dalou Mountain with the lowest diversity of species; The highest diversity of national class I species under special protection are the Daba Mountains and the plain in the middle reaches of the Yangtze River, followed by the Jianghan Plain.(Ⅱ)The conversation gaps of the terrestrial wildlife under special protection1.By superimposing the geographical distribution of 96 key protected species with the zoning scope of nature reserves to analyze their protection gaps, only 13 species of them completely located in the protected area and are in good condition; Then according to the study on the conversation gaps of the hot spots of wildlife under special protection, one concentrated hotspot is protected by a national nature reserve, the 2 hotspots of the 5 hotspots had protection vacancies, and 25 of 39 sub-hotspots have protection vacancies;1 of the 4 hotspots is unprotected in national class I wildlife under special protection, and 8 of the 16 sub-hotspots have protection vacancies. The analysis on the distribution of hot spots in the suitable areas showed that the hot spots of the suitable areas are mainly distributed in Daba Mountain and Wuling Mountain. The suitable areas with weighted cumulative value accounting for 50%of the total value is 757 km2,there are 383 km2 does not overlap with the protected area, and there are 50.59%conversation gaps.In summary, according to this study,we have a general understanding of the resource status and conversation gaps of the wildlife under special protection in Hubei Province, and provide a certain reference for the subsequent effective filling of the conversation gaps.In view of the existing problems,it is recommended to pay attention to the improvement and timely update of the basic information database of the wildlife under special protection, and improve the protection of the hot spots around nature reserves of the Wuling Mountain and Daba Mountain. For the Qingjiang cutting mountain,it is necessary to increase the construction of protected areas. The Jianghan Plain should ensure that the hotspots of the national class I wildlife under special protection are not affected by man-made leisure activities.
