With the accelerating aging process,the increasing number of elderly patients and advanced cancer patients,coupled with the transformation of medical treatment mode and the need to improve the dignity of life,hospice care has begun to receive attention from the society and the medical and health system.Social workers play an important role in hospice care teams because of their combination of professionalism and humanistic care,the provision of high quality hospice care services has a higher requirement on the competence of hospice care social workers.Therefore,it is necessary to construct a practical competency model for hospice care social workers to help them identify their own competencies and improve their competency.This paper mainly adopts the qualitative interview method to conduct the research,focusing on what kind of competency should hospice care social workers have,namely,the construction of competency model and the difficulties they face in improving their competency,and then puts forward corresponding suggestions.In the research process,the author firstly combed and integrated the literature on the competency model of hospice care social workers and related groups,and then defined the competency model of hospice care social workers as five dimensions of values,comprehensive knowledge,practical skills,personality traits and professional attitudes,subsequently,12 hospice care social workers in Shanghai were interviewed by semi-structured interview assisted by critical incident interview,so as to fill in the sub-level of five dimensions,with a total of 25 competency elements,then the competency model is supplemented and verified with the data obtained from focus group interviews,so as to construct a complete and authoritative competency model for hospice care social workers.On the basis of constructing the competency model,the author continued to explore the difficulties of hospice care social workers in improving their competence by using semi-structured interview,the difficulties faced by hospice care social workers is divided into two parts,intrinsic factors and external factors,then,some countermeasures are given to improve the competence of hospice care social workers.Finally,the conclusion of this paper is drawn that the competency model of hospice care social workers is hierarchical,the internal hindrance factors play a decisive role in the improvement of their competence and the improvement of their competence should have the subject synchronization.Then the research reflection is put forward from the level of competency cultivation and promotionThis study is of certain value to the cultivation of the talent system of hospice care social workers,provides the focus of talent cultivation,and has certain reference significance for the overall improvement of the competence level of hospice care social workers.However,due to the limitations of the research,the reliability of the research conclusions still needs to be further tested.In addition,there is still a long way to go in the field of the competence of hospice care social workers,which needs to be further explored.
