Index is an indispensable and important tool for information retrieval.It forms a book retrieval system together with table of contents,page numbers,headers,etc.The post-book index originally originated in the West and has a history of more than two thousand years.Nowadays,western indexes have always adopted the international standard of ISO 999: 1996,and the development of indexing methods has been slow.Although the Chinese index is an imported product,the first Chinese national standard GB/T 22466-2008 "Indexing Rules(General Provisions)" was issued and implemented in 2008.For more than ten years,through learning,introduction,absorption,digestion,and innovation,The indexing method has gradually got rid of those shadows that are only suitable for western indexing methods,and the richness and adaptability of the index have been greatly developed.This research uses the literature research method,empirical research method and comparative analysis method,combined with the author's own example of the post-book index to analyze and summarize,mainly discusses the arrangement of the Chinese and Western post-book indexes from five aspects: First,the format of the post-book index entries,mainly including Chinese and Western The constituent elements,source item arrangement,heading arrangement,type of item format,application status of item format,and differences and equality of item format of the index entries in the back of the book;the second is the index symbol system of the back of the book,including the Chinese and Western index symbol systems,and index symbols The number of index symbols,the types of index symbols,the application status of index symbols,etc.;the third is the post-book index reference setting,including the type of Chinese and Western post-index reference,the heading reference form,the similarities and differences between the reference settings and the specific usage;the fourth is the sorting method of the post-book index,Including the similarities and differences of the types of methods and heading sorting rules that can be used in the sorting operation of the Chinese and Western books;the fifth is the type of post-index typesetting,including the types of types of post-index entries of Chinese and Western books,and the similarities and differences of the typesetting formats of the post-book indexes.After a comparative study of the Chinese and Western indexing and typesetting styles,from the perspective of the characteristic development of the indexing methods of the Chinese books,the article format,symbol system,reference settings,sorting methods,and typesetting forms of the Chinese books are summarized and summarized.The research conclusions have four main points.One is that the development of Chinese indexing methods has achieved "indexing in China";the other is that the development of Chinese and Western indexing systems goes hand in hand;the third is that Chinese indexing reflects the characteristics of serving readers;and the fourth is indexing.The arrangement method is the source of promoting the healthy development of China's indexing industry.Finally,this article puts forward five suggestions for the future development of China's indexing method,continue to adhere to the uniqueness of China's indexing method,realize the mutual promotion of index compilation and the development of indexing methods,continue to pay attention to the latest developments in western index development,and carry out the publishing field.Index talent education and improve the normative evaluation system for book publishing.
