A Mobile Ad Hoc Network(MANET)is a wireless network that is independent of human management and any fixed infrastructures, and readily available form of rapid deployment.MANET is applied to battlefield communications, intelligent transportation, and disaster rescue. However, the intertwined impacts of the proliferation of service volumes, the diversity of missions, and the frequent changes of network topology bring a great challenge for supporting the high-quality information transmission by MANET.Traditional on-demand routing protocols,table-driven routing protocols, etc.are no longer adapted to the complicated MANET,and the various routing handover strategies based on adaptation have become a new research focus. These strategies can rapidly adjust the current routing protocol derived from the impacts and improve the adaptability of the routing protocol for the network. However, phenomena on the transformation of the topology and services usually are local existence.Besides, the adaptive routing strategies for the influence of the global network environment not only consume large resources but also always ignore changes in the local region.Hence,It is of great significance to highlight the characteristics of various routing protocols and guarantee the optimal routing performance in dynamic networks. This article designs an adaptive routing protocol based on on-demand clustering protocal(ARP-DCP)to handle the challenges of the impacts of local variation in MANET.The protocol firstly defines the gravitational factor to depict the service correlation between nodes and the stability of their relative positions and quantifies the similarity between nodes.Besides, the nodes with large similarities are divided into the same cluster and managed by the cluster to realize on-demand clustering through the utilization of the cluster structure, which simplifies the scale of intra-cluster routing and effectively controls the impact of local changes for the whole network. Finally, the adaptive routing strategy of ARP-DC is proposed to adjust the routing protocols in the cluster or the entire network according to the dynamic impacts, which can enhance the adaptability of the routing protocol and exert the characteristics of the specific routing protocol. To improve the reliability of the data generated by the routing strategy, this article generates a routing table through simulation analysis of the DSDV and DSR routing protocols to provide theoretical support for adaptive routing strategy. In order to verify the reliability and effectiveness of the ARP-DCP proposed in this article,we utilize OPNET to simulate the ARP-DCP,and compared DSDV,DSR,and existing adaptive routing handover strategies with the performance. The simulation results show that compared with other routing protocols, the ARP-DC protocol can increase throughput over 20% and reduce routing overhead over 30%.
