Compared with the conventional low-frequency systems, the millimeter wave system with rich spectrual resources makes a great process in the data transmission. However, compared to the low-frequency electromagnetic waves, the propagation features of the millimeter wave are more complicated. And with the increasing of the transmission distance, signals in the millimeter wave band will experience more severe attenuation. Thanks to the beamforming(BF)tenique,it is used to combate the severe path loss in the transmission. However, the millimeter wave in high frequency band has a poor diffraction ability, and the scatters in the wireless communication environment have a great effect in the millimeter wave transmission.Based on these propagation features,a novel spatial scattering modulation(SSM)was first proposed by Kim et al.Compared to the conventional modualtions, the SSM utilizes the spatial domain to convey information bits without antual transmission. The indices become an additional way to convey information bits.A dual-polarized(DP)transmit antenna can generate various polarization states including linear polarizations, circular polarizations, and elliptic polarizations.Only uni-polarized(UP)antennas have been used in the SSM system. Therefore, considering the polarization domain,a novel polarized spatial scatters modulation(PSSM)is first proposed in this paper. Two bit streams are transmitted simultaneously in the SSM.One of them is conveyed by the indices of the polarizetion states whereas the other in conveyed by the directions of the scatters. In this paper,we first design the PSSM system, including the details of the transmittter configurations, modulation mechanism, wireless channel, receiver configurations, and demodulation mechanism. In addition, the mapping rules of the polarization constellation are described in detail and it is further optimized in this paper.A tight union upper bound on the average BER is analyzed and derived in a closed-form.And the tightness of the analytic union upper bound on the closed-form BER is verified via Monte Carlo simulations. So it is feasible to use the analytic union upper bound on the closed-form BER instead of PSSM system approximate BER for performance analysis.Numertical results show that the proposed PSSM system outperforms the conventional SSM system in terms of the BER performance.According to the analytic closed-form BER,the parameters that influence the system BER results are analyzed. And then, the systems performances with different configurations are compared in this paper.
