With the rapid development of computer graphics card equipment and 3D scanning technology, especially the continuous improvement of 3D modeling technology, the 3D models have emerged and affected all aspects of our life.In the fields of medical care, cultural relics protection, architecture, film animation, and games,3D models bring us new experiences and enjoyments with their natural descriptions and realistic details that are close to reality. With the rapid development of 3D modeling technology, the 3D models obtained by modeling becomes more and more complex and sophisticated, and the details contained in the model are more abundant. But,these highly complex and sophisticated models contain large amounts of data, which poses a significant performance challenge for many applications. However, not all applications require such highly complex and sophisticated 3D models. Therefore, for applications that do not need highly complex and sophisticated 3D models, the complex model can be simplified properly, and the simplified model can be used in the application to replace the complex model in order to improve the performance of the application. The main purpose of this paper is to propose a multi-model simplification algorithm based on effect maintenance. The algorithm mainly solves the simplification of multiple models with different fineness in the scene, and the feature information of the model with low fineness will lose more, and when the degree of simplification is too large, the appearance effect of the simplified model changes greatly. The research work in this paper includes the following aspects:Firstly,a method of dynamically simplifying the adjustment factor is proposed to solve the problem that the model with low degree of fitness has a large loss of appearance.By extracting the appearance features of each model in the scene, the simplification factor is dynamically allocated for the model of different fine degree, which makes the mesh models of different fine degree simplify to different degrees according to their characteristics information. Finally, many models can keep their feature information as much as possible.Secondly, the method of maximizing the degree of simplification is proposed to solve the problem that the appearance of the model changes seriously as the degree of simplification increases.Through the two aspects of the number of feature vertices of the model and the appearance error of the simplified model and its original model, the constraint of the maximum simplified degree of the model is realized, that is,when the appearance effect of the simplified model changes to a certain degree, the simplification of the model will be stopped.
