Love and marriage are the eternal themes in our lives,and they are also the timeless topics on TV programs.In 1965,?Dating Game?first appeared on TV in America,since then,marriage reality shows premiered on screens officially.Review of Chinese marriage reality show,it has been developed for 30 years since 1988.From "TV matchmaker" in the embryonic stage,to "Date of the rose" in the development stage,then to "if you are the one" in the prosperity stage,the vigorous development of marriage reality shows reached its peak when "if you are the one"appeared in 2020.After that,Chinese marriage reality shows have sprung up like mushrooms,and marriage reality shows have become an important part of the TV programs.Although Chinese marriage reality shows started late,they are developing rapidly.This is mainly because the marriage and love programs are the products of our time.This open and inclusive era has endowed the marriage reality shows with broad development space.At the same time,the reform and opening up has made the cultural exchanges between China and foreign countries closer.In the generation and development of Chinese marriage reality shows,it is not difficult to see that they are influenced and penetrated by American marriage reality shows.So,we set our sights on the America——the birthplace of marriage reality shows.Compared with Chinese marriage reality shows which are still in a period of steady development,the American marriage reality shows have been tempered for more than half a century and have developed quite mature.Therefore,marriage reality shows in America and China are selected for a comparative study.The purpose of this paper is to analyze the program characteristics and cultural characteristics of marriage reality shows in China and America,make a detailed comparison,and explore the references of similar programs in America,so as to clarify the future development direction of our marriage reality programs.This paper makes a comparative study from four parts.The first part summarizes the research status of marriage and love reality shows in China and America and establishes the significance of the topic.The second part summarizes the development process of marriage and love reality shows in China and America.The third part is the focus of this paper,using the "5W" theory of communication to analyze the similarities and differences in the communication environment,contents,channels and effects of Chinese and American marriage programs.First of all,in terms of communication environment,the social system and cultural environment of China and the United States are different,which determines the different communication policies of Chinese and American TV programs.American culture tends to individualism,so TV programs are commercial operation system with private ownership as the main body.China,on the other hand,prefers collectivism and follows the operating system of "property and enterprise management".Secondly,in terms of communication content,there are many similarities and differences between Chinese and American dating programs.For example,Chinese and American dating programs are all themed with dating and making friends,highlighting entertainment.There are similarities in conflict Settings and stage design in the programs.At the same time,there are also many differences in the content of the programs.American love and marriage programs pay more attention to the psychological research of the audience,while Chinese love and marriage programs face the problem of program homogeneity due to the introduction of a large number of foreign programs.Again,on the transmission channel,the dating shows in China and the United States also have a lot of similarities,the marriage of the two countries show will be broadcast on TV media is preferred,then spread in major social media and video sites,with the progress of technology,China and the United States of dating shows can be timely after the broadcast with the audience interaction.But dating shows on the transmission channels between the two countries also have differences,dating programs in the United States pay more attention to show the brand shaping and spread,brand development philosophy is one of the most important concept of American television,and American dating shows more skillfully use big data technology,target audience,is good at making fit the audience psychology program.Finally,in tenns of communication effect,the marriage and love programs in both countries have produced a wide range of influences,but there are also some negative problems.For example,some extreme comments in the programs will promote consumerism and promote the entertainment of reality shows.However,American love and marriage programs pay more attention to the shaping of female images in the programs,which is also worthy of our country's love and marriage programs to learn.The fourth part is on the basis of the previous chapter,combined with the content of communication studies,put forward the future development path of Chinese marriage and love reality shows.
