Research On Media Production Process Management Of W Company

Along with the great development of computer information and semiconductor technology,the competition in data storage industry has entered a white-hot stage.Improving the management methods,reducing the operating cost and improving the product quality have become the key to maintain the competitive advantage of hard disk drive manufacturing industry.As a frontier management concept,six sigma plays an important role in hard disk drive production process management.At the same time,for hard disk drive manufacturing industry with complex process and frequent process variation,it is particularly important to identify and control the output indicators of process management(such as the unknown process defects).The first part of this paper,from the perspective of relative macro,discussed the present situation and the existing problems of W company media production process management.The rest parts took media process induced defect reduction,media testing failure reduction as a specific breakthrough point of this research,through using six sigma management methodology for problem solving in the third chapter,which includes problems definition/raising,analyzing reasons,improvement strategy identification,implementation and control etc.It analyzed and improved process input factors that caused sputter process excursion and induced process defects,realized sputter process induced defect reduction.In the fourth chapter,with the help of clustering pattern recognition technology of data mining,it identified the unknown and various/frequent defects that were outputted from media process(especially sputter processes).Moreover,an intelligent control system with full linkage response of machine materials was established to reduce the failure rate of medial detection from the initial 7% to 5.3%,saving a cost of $298k.In this practical research,6sigma management concept combined with data mining technology has realized the comprehensive control over the input and output variables of the media production process,improved media production process management system.At the same time,through the promotion of this project,in W company it's becoming a hot trend using 6sigma plus data mining for process improvement.
