The teaching of writing is the focus of language teaching,and essay writing,as a component of writing teaching,has a pivotal role.In recent years,research on the teaching of argumentative essay writing in high schools has become more and more concerned with students' critical thinking skills,which is fully in line with the requirements of the new curriculum reform.From the essay questions in recent years,we can also find that the essay questions are demanding more and more critical thinking skills from the candidates.However,at present,the teaching of argumentative essay writing in high school is patterned,the thinking training is utilitarian and superficial,and the teaching of argumentative essays is formal.Based on this,this paper introduces a new teaching mode-scaffolding teaching,which is based on specific learning situations and provides students with corresponding scaffolds.Through the guidance of scaffolding,students' potential development levels will be smoothly transformed into actual development levels,which provides a new teaching method for the high school critical essay writing classroom.This thesis focuses on high school students,analyses the current situation of teaching discursive essay writing in high school,finds the reasons for students' lack of critical thinking and reflects on them,and applies an advanced teaching model-scaffolding teaching-to writing teaching.The thesis is divided into five parts.Part ?: Concept definition and theoretical basis.The core concepts of the paper,namely scaffolding,scaffolded teaching and the "critical essay",are first explored and defined,followed by an analysis of the theories underpinning the research.Part ?: The need for scaffolded teaching is explained.The importance of scaffolded teaching is analysed in terms of the senior secondary school curriculum,the current senior secondary school textbook and the difficulties of teaching the critical essay.Part ?: An analysis of the current situation and causes of teaching critical essay writing in senior secondary schools.This section analyses the results of questionnaires and teacher interviews to find a series of problems in the teaching of critical essay writing to high school students,and uses the data as a reference to analyse the underlying causes of the existing problems.Part ?: Strategies of scaffolding teaching in the teaching of "critical essay" writing in high school.The main purpose is to propose specific strategies for developing students' critical thinking skills in the teaching of discursive essay writing in senior secondary schools by enhancing motivation,updating teaching concepts and providing concrete scaffolds for writing.Part 5: Issues that should be noted in the application of scaffolding teaching to high school critical essay writing,with a view to providing useful references for scaffolding teaching methods.
