Quantity is the ability to perceive things with elements other than numbers.The current primary school mathematics education in my country pays more attention to the conversion of various units of measurement and the calculation of the area and volume of figures,but pays less attention to the understanding and feeling of quantities,the application of quantities,and measurement and estimation.The cultivation of the sense of quantity is unbalanced and requires attention and research.Based on this,this study takes the "current situation of the sense of quantity of fifth grade primary school students" as the research problem,and extracts the six dimensions of the sense of quantity according to the specific requirements in the "Compulsory Education Mathematics Curriculum Standards(2022)" and previous research,from the meaning of quantity,the choice of quantity,Based on the comparison of quantity,conversion of quantity,inference of quantity,and application of quantity,the evaluation tool of primary school students’ sense of quantity is compiled,and the test results are analyzed and researched in combination with interviews.The results of the study show that: from an overall point of view,the fifth grade primary school students have a good sense of quantity and there are significant gender differences.In the six dimensions divided in this study,students performed better in quantity selection,quantity comparison,and quantity conversion,but unsatisfactory in quantity meaning,quantity inference,and quantity application,and in quantity selection.There are significant gender differences in the three dimensions of,quantitative comparison and quantitative inference.Specific to each dimension,in the dimension of the meaning of quantity,students need to improve their understanding of the meaning of area;in the dimension of quantity selection,students need to improve the ability to choose area units;in the comparative dimension of quantity,students need to improve the length and area;In the conversion dimension of quantification,students’ conversion level of weight,area and time needs to be improved;in the inference dimension of quantity,the overall level is low and needs attention;in the dimension of quantity application,what students need to improve is the application ability of length and area.In addition,based on the data analysis of the primary school students’ volume sense test paper and combined with the specific answers of the primary school students,this study found that students mainly have four errors: unclear concept understanding,unclear system,inference error and negligence error.Based on the analysis of the research results,combined with the problems reflected in the test paper,this study puts forward the following suggestions: teachers should combine the actual situation in teaching,strengthen students’ understanding of the meaning of each quantity,and improve students’ ability to use quantity to solve practical problems;It is also necessary to scientifically design teaching activities to improve the conversion level of students.In addition,teachers should increase mathematical practice activities to improve students’ ability to infer quantities,and at the same time,they should standardize students’ mathematical answering steps.
