In recent years,with the continuous advancement of curriculum education reform,the cultivation of scientific inquiry ability and innovation ability of primary and secondary school students has been attached importance to by many educational researchers and educators.Asking questions and asking high-quality questions in learning is not only the basis of innovation,but also the primary link of scientific inquiry.Meanwhile,Biology itself as a natural science subject with strong inquiry,it has certain requirements on students’ ability to ask questions.Thus,it is imperative to attach importance to and train students’ questioning ability in biology teaching.In this study,literature analysis was first used to understand the research status of "questioning ability" and "KWL" teaching mode at home and abroad,and relevant concepts were defined to provide a theoretical basis for the subsequent teaching design and development of evaluation tools.Before teaching practice,questionnaire survey was used to investigate the status quo and influencing factors of questioning ability of 683 students in grade one of a middle school in Bayannur City.Interview method is used to understand the factors affecting students’ questioning and the problems existing in the implementation of this model.The results show that students’ questioning ability is generally at a poor level,which is mainly reflected in the critical spirit,the number of questions,the quality of questions and the quality of questions expressed.It is necessary to change the traditional teaching methods to improve this situation.There are two main factors affecting students’ questioning ability.Students are concerned about other people’s opinions,worry about affecting teachers’ normal class,unable to express problems completely and their own learning habits.In terms of teachers,teachers’ teaching style is a major factor affecting students’ questioning.Suitable for screening high school biology required a textbook to KWL teaching mode of teaching content,teaching design,accordingly on the basis of teaching practice in front of the student questionnaire and teacher interview results,select question ability,biology results quite similar high grade two parallel class,one as the experimental class use "KWL" mode of teaching,the other class,as a control class,adopted conventional teaching mainly in class and carried out a three-month practical teaching research.After the experiment,statistical analysis was conducted on the pre-and-post-test data of students’ questioning ability and biological performance respectively.The research results showed that: After the experiment,whether compared with before the experiment or compared with the control class,the students’ questioning ability was significantly improved(p < 0.01).From all dimensions,students’ critical spirit,the number of questions raised and the quality of question expression were significantly improved.Although students’ questioning habits and the quality of questions have improved to a certain extent,there is no significant difference.After the experiment,the biological scores of the students in the experimental class were significantly improved(p < 0.05),no matter compared with the control class or before the experiment.The above results show that KWL model has a significant promoting effect on improving students’ questioning ability and biology learning performance,and KWL model is suitable for biology teaching in high school.
