In today’s era of rapid development of science and technology, the cultivation of high-quality professionals has become an inevitable requirement of education.Carrying out inquiry experiments is of great significance to improve students’scientific inquiry ability and sense of innovation, and inquiry experiments are also an effective way to develop students’core literacy in chemistry. This study attempts to design some exploratory experiments on metals and their compounds based on the Tetra-Representation,and cultivate students’learning interest, inquiry ability and Tetra-Representation level in the teaching process. The main research contents of this study include:clarifying the importance of inquiry-based experiments in Chemistry teaching in secondary schools, through the literature research method, understanding the development status of"inquiry experiments"at home and abroad, sorting out the generation, development and application of Tetra-Representation at home and abroad and its application in teaching, and clarify the significance and specific direction of this research;Taking constructivist theory, learning pyramid theory,Sa qi man inquiry teaching theory and multiple representation theory as the theoretical basis of this research, and define the core concepts;By distributing questionnaires,we surveyed the teaching status of frontline teachers based on the Tetra-Representation representations, and analysis of the results of the survey;Summarize the three principles that a design should follow:the principle of subjectivity in student activities, the inquiry principles of experimental design and discipline-specific characterization principles, sort out the inquiry-based experimental design process based on the Tetra-Representation,and three cases were selected:"Quantitative Experiment of Exploring the Reaction of Sodium and Ethanol","Exploring the Content of Iron Element in Iron Supplements"and"Exploring the Change of Conductivity of Solution in Al(OH)3Preparation Experiment"for design and implementation, which were designed and implemented; After practical teaching, the students of the experimental and control classes are tested using test questions,SPSS24 was used to perform statistical analysis of the scores obtained, and through the random sampling method, some students are selected for individual interviews, analyze the effectiveness of classroom teaching, the interview found that students had three changes:they increased their interest in learning chemistry, deepened their understanding of quadruple representations, and enhanced their ability to explore science, and reflect on and summarize the implementation of teaching.Practical research shows that the design of inquiry-based experiments based on the Tetra-Representation can effectively enhance students’interest in learning chemistry, develop students’Tetra-Representation level and cultivate students’ability of scientific inquiry. It can improve students’ability of unity and cooperation, enhance students’sense of innovation, and help students form a way of thinking that analyzes the same problem from different angles,so as to develop the core literacy of the Chemistry.
