Different versions of biology textbooks, edited according to the 2017 edition of the General High School Biology Curriculum Standards, was used in different regions of China in 2019.In order to understand the characteristics of different versions of new biology textbooks and the current state of their use,we did research about after-school exercises in biology textbooks proposed educational suggestions for developing student core literacy using after-school exercises by doing practice, analyzing textbooks and doing comparative research methods.Additionally,we provided feedback on biology and preparation for after-school exercises. The study firstly investigated the current state of design and use of "after-school exercises" in high schools in various parts of Hunan province, and found that:(1)In the evaluation of the design of after-school exercises, most teachers commented on the PEP version of "Molecules and Cells" by most teachers. The overall evaluation of the design of the after-school exercises in the new textbook is relatively high.(2)Regarding the use of after-school exercises, teachers are not optimistic about the use and explanation of after-school exercises, and although about half of the teachers rarely explain after-school exercises in this column, extracurricular exercises are supplemented by all teachers. The way some teachers deal with after-school exercises needs to be improved, and students' use of after-school exercises needs to be improved.(3)Infiltrate core literacy education and evaluation through after-school exercises.Teachers have a good understanding of core literacy, but lack understanding and application of academic quality standards. Most teachers said they couldn't take advantage of after-school exercises due to inadequate analysis of factors such as lesson schedules and lesson progress,as well as the core literacy levels of biology subjects examined in the after-school exercises.Based on the results of the questionnaire survey, this study is based on the quality standards of biology, condensing the four elements of core literacy in the field of biology, dividing the levels, and building an analytical model of after-school exercises.Taking "Molecules and Cells" as an example, five editions of the new textbook's after-school exercises are compared in terms of surface structure, core literacy distribution characteristics, and context selection.we found the following result:(1)The after-school exercises in the five versions of the textbook are primarily based on traditional question types, with core literacy level assessments biased towards level 1.After-school exercises explore concepts of life and integrate classrooms. The use of knowledge and scientific experimental situations Three aspects are very important, and some problem situations are closely related to real life and production.(2)Each of the five versions of the after-school exercises in the textbook has its own characteristics.People Education Edition and Jiangsu Education Edition have more sections, and People Education Edition and Shanghai Science Edition have more questions. The Jiangsu Education Edition focuses on fostering students' scientific thinking literacy, while the Beijing Normal University version aims to foster literacy that pays more attention to students' scientific exploration and social responsibility.Pay more attention to the development of thinking and social responsibility literacy;Beijing Ordinary University Edition,Shanghai Scientific Edition, and Zhejiang Scientific Edition tend to examine scientific thinking at Level2.Beijing General University Edition,Shanghai Science Edition Jiangsu Education Edition and Jiangsu Education Edition tend to focus on Level 2.The Beijing Ordinary University version pays more attention to the use of the situation in after-school exercises.
