| Since the 21st century,the development of science and technology has driven the rapid growth of the global economy,and social production has shifted from manual labor to mechanized operations.Intelligent machines have replaced many jobs,but they don’t have the same sense of independence and innovative thinking as humans.Therefore,national construction still needs a group of high-quality innovative talents to undertake.In 2002,the United States took the lead in putting forward the "4C Competence",which defined the basic abilities that future talents must have to adapt to the society,including collaboration,critical thinking,creativity,and communication.Countries have responded by actively seeking effective ways to cultivate "4C Competence".2014,the Ministry of Education promulgated Opinions of the Ministry of Education on Deepening the Curriculum Reform in an All-round Way and Implementing the Fundamental Task of Establishing Human Moral Character,implemented "4C Competence" into the Core Literacy System,put forward "five plans as a whole".It points out the direction for the organic combination of STEAM education and the promotion of "4C ability",which integrates science,technology,engineering,art and mathematics.The native silkworm culture in Nanchong provides abundant materials for carrying out the STEAM course of biology in middle schools.In this article,we studied the teaching design of STEAM course of biology in middle school,which pointed to "4C Competence",with Nanchong silkworm culture as the theme.Through literature research,we constructed the general process of teaching design of STEAM course,compiled the corresponding teaching design according to the teaching practice of middle school,and practiced the teaching design case.We also tested whether the teaching design of STEAM course in middle school biology is effective in improving students’ "4C Competence" by questionnaire.Firstly,we consulted literature and video materials to understand the current development of STEAM courses at home and abroad,the relevant teaching design,the existing silkworm culture theme courses in China and the cognitive development characteristics of middle school students.We analyzed students’ new demands for education,and constructed the general process of teaching design of STEAM course.The process includes determining the theme,defining the goal,and designing the project before class.The process includes situation introduction in class,asking questions,investigation and research,cooperation and exchange,design scheme,comparative and innovation,comprehensive and creation,test and improvement,sharing and exchange,summary and strengthening.The process includes consolidation,expansion and reflection after class.Then,according to the educational needs and students’ level,we have compiled the teaching design of the middle school biology STEAM course,which combines biological knowledge and cultural products with the theme of life history of silkworm,silkworm,silk and silk workshop.Among them,the theme of life history of silkworm includes lovely silkworm babies,making samples of silkworm life history,the mystery of time stop,useful medicine in the Approach to Science,what methods can delay food corruption and so on.The theme of silkworm topics includes observing silkworm movements,building mathematical models,building dynamic models of silkworm-imitating robots,and crawling of silkworm shapes.The theme of silk includes tearing cotton bags and pulling them into silk screens to make bedding,identification of silk components,treatment of cocoon cooking wastewater and other projects.The theme of silk workshop includes visiting and recording,drawing three views,assembling simple buildings,and creative design of architectural models.Then,we brought the teaching design case of STEAM course of biology in middle school with the theme of "life history of silkworm" to relevant schools,and randomly selected Class 1 of Grade 8 and Class 3 of Grade 1 in Senior High School to practice.Finally,through the questionnaire survey,we found that students’ collaboration,critical thinking,creative,communication have been significantly improved.Therefore,the teaching design of STEAM course of biology in middle schools with Nanchong silkworm culture as the theme can significantly improve students’ "4C Competence" and promote teachers and students to understand the silkworm culture in their hometown,which is feasible and of great significance.This study hopes to expand students’ thinking in the cutting-edge middle school biology STEAM course and cultivate students’ "4C Competence" in novel teaching activities.And this study hopes to provide teaching reference for front-line teachers and bring new content into education. |
