In China, there have been many domestic researches on the basic mathematics abilities of ethnic minority students, but there are few researches on the basic mathematics abilities of Yi students. The author has learned that in general,it is difficult for Yi students to learn mathematics. Why do Yi students have more difficulties in learning mathematics? What are the factors related to these difficulties? Are there differences with Han students? Based on these considerations, the author made a comparative study on the basic mathematics abilities of Yi and Han junior high school students.First,in order to determine whether there are significant differences in the basic mathematics abilities of Yi and Han junior high school students, the author compares and analyzes the basic mathematics abilities of Yi and Han junior high school students in different regions. It is not difficult to find from this that it is the differences between the various factors of the regional environment, not the differences between the ethnic groups, that cause the differences in the basic mathematics abilities of the Yi and Han junior high school students. In addition, the author continued to investigate, analyze, and compare the basic mathematics abilities of Yi and Han junior high school students in the same area.Secondly,we classify, count and analyze the scores of the basic mathematics test papers. We found that the differences in the basic mathematics abilities of Yi and Han junior high school students in the same area are not remarkable, but the basic mathematics abilities of Yi and Han junior high school students in different regions are significantly different. Therefore, the main factors affecting the basic mathematics abilities of Yi ethnic group junior high school students are non-intelligence factors. The author further divides the non-intellectual factors into four aspects: individual learning motivation, family environment, school environment, and language environment.Based on this, the author finds the influencing factors which determine these differences are roughly as follows:parents' concern for students' learning, parents' educational level, family economic status, teachers' teaching ability, overall learning atmosphere, students' sense of self-efficacy in learning, etc. Finally,in response to these influencing factors, from the perspective of schools, families, teachers, and students themselves, this paper proposes some strategies to improve the basic mathematics abilities of Yi ethnic group junior high school students.
