| “Meihua”is a set of Chinese textbooks compiled by Indonesian Chinese for Indonesian elementary school students. This paper uses documentary analysis, statistical analysis of data and comparative analysis to study the phonological, lexical, grammatical and cultural aspects of the “Meihua”.The grammar section is full of grammatical items and numerous; The culture section places emphasis on communicative culture and keeping up with the times.By comparing it with the “Youth Chinese Test(YCT)1-4 Outline’’and the“International Curriculum for Chinese Language Education’’,“Meihua” does not fully reflect the phonetic knowledge of the “International Curriculum for Chinese Language Education”,but its phonetic knowledge is arranged in accordance with the scientific principles of compiling Chinese textbook. The vocabulary section has a low recurrence rate and a large number of superlatives; The culture section places emphasis on communicative culture and keeping up with the times. The topic-based approach to content writing, the relevance of the topics to pupils’ lives and the emphasis on grammatical reproduction are the main strengths of “Meihua”.However, there are shortcomings, such as incomplete knowledge of phonetics, many superlatives and incomplete presentation of grammar. In view of this,we propose a revision of “Meihua” in terms of phonetics, vocabulary, grammar, culture and characterisation,in the hope that it will provide a reference for the development of localised Chinese language textbooks and play a role in promoting the nationalisation of Chinese language teaching materials. |
