Chinese character teaching,an important part of Chinese language teaching,plays a driving role in Chinese language teaching.the theory and practice of Chinese character teaching are relatively weak and lagging behind,which directly affects the teaching level of Chinese characters in a negative way.It is of practical significance and research value to study the problems and causes of Chinese character teaching in primary reading and writing course of Thai middle school for promoting the development of Chinese character teaching and improving the quality of Chinese character teaching.This paper takes the students of Saohai middle school in Thailand as the research object,uses a variety of research methods including literature research,questionnaire survey,interview,and classroom observation to an to deeply explore the current situation,existing problems and causes of Chinese character teaching in Thailand.It is found that there are some problems in Chinese character teaching in Thailand.On the teachers' side,they have paid less attention to the teaching of Chinese characters;Chinese character teaching methods are old-fashion and less creative;the demonstration of writing Chinese characters is not standardized;the requirements for students' Chinese characters writing are not strict,and the teaching of Chinese characters is not interesting and scientific enough.On the teaching materials' side,the teaching of Chinese characters is not systemized,with too many unfamiliar characters,absent phonetic identifications,and less effective explanations.On students' side,they lack the overall cognition of Chinese characters learning and have a single learning strategy of Chinese characters and weak awareness of the stroke order of Chinese characters.The causes of this phenomenon are as follow.The number of teachers is short,and the teaching ability of Chinese characters is limited.The textbook is not applicable.Students are lack of motivation,fear of difficulties and negative transfer of mother tongue.In view of this,this paper puts forward some practical suggestions for improving the teaching of Chinese characters in Thailand.The previous habitual concept of Chinese character teaching needs to be transformed in order to improve their teaching ability.Teachers should use a variety of teaching methods,reasonably arrange the teaching content,combine teaching with practice,increase the interest of the practice,attach importance to students' written work,and cultivate students' good writing habits.Students should adjust their attitude towards Chinese characters learning,overcome the fear of the difficulties in Chinese characters learning,pay serious attention to Chinese characters learning strategies,improve learning methods,and value both the pronunciation,image,and meaning of Chinese characters equally.Students should make better use of resources from the internet to actively search for the contents that satisfy their personal needs.Chinese character teaching materials should be tailored specifically according to the characteristics of Thailand students.The stability of the Chinese language teaching staff is of great importance.Raising more and more local Chinese language teachers to a professional level can not only ensure a stable and strong teacher's team but also enhance the localization of Chinese character teaching in Thailand as well as the steady development of Chinese language teaching in Thailand.
