With the rapid development of modern science technology,mathematics is widely used and increasingly valued.Quality cultivation of students attracts people’s attention.In terms of mathematics,the core quality of mathematics is composed of six parts.Among them,mathematical modeling quality is one of six major attainments.With the new curriculum reform,mathematical modeling is brought into the mathematics course of junior schools.Based on an equation,the author investigates mathematical modeling ability of junior school students and uses three research methods: document research method,comparative analysis method and questionnaire method.Firstly,the author studies lots of research data and lays a solid theoretical foundation.Also,the author uses SPSS software to analyze data after comparing with domestic and overseas research status and mathematical textbooks of different versions and compiling test papers.Besides,the author analyzes the overall situation of junior school students’ mathematical modeling ability,compares with mathematical modeling ability of students in different grades,genders and levels,and finally investigates understanding of teachers and students on modeling.The author draws the following conclusions:(1)Junior school students generally have the lower mathematical modeling ability and weak modeling consciousness,and still remain the great improvement space.(2)Students in different grades have the significant difference in their mathematical modeling ability.Junior students are higher than grade two students in junior schools,while the latter is higher than grade one in junior schools.(3)Junior school students’ mathematical modeling ability is irrelevant of genders.(4)Junior school students with different schoolwork level have no significant difference.By aiming at the research results,the author comes up with countermeasures on mathematical modeling teaching:(1)value cultivation of students’ mathematical modeling ability;(2)multiple types of modeling activities for students in different grades;(3)cultivation of students’ modeling habits in teaching.
