Entrepreneurship education is an important content of graduate education in the new period.This is not only an important trend in the reform of higher education in the world,but also an effective way to combine the cultivation of graduate students with their future career development.Entrepreneurship education for graduate students does not foreshadow that all graduate students must start entrepreneurship,but that they should cultivate basic entrepreneurial ability for graduate students.The cultivation of entrepreneurial ability is a multi-factor,multi-layered complex,that is,it reflects a kind of capability framework and points to future development.The characteristics of graduate education determine that in addition to its general entrepreneurial ability,there are disciplinary differences in different disciplines.Based on this,and in order to make research more focused,this article studies the improvement of entrepreneurship education of engineering graduates from the perspective of the cultivation entrepreneurial ability.Based on the related theories of entrepreneurial ability,and takeing into account the particularity of graduate education,engineering science characteristics,and industry characteristics,this paper proposes the connotation and dimensions of entrepreneurial ability of engineering graduate.Based on this,a questionnaire is designed,and a questionnaire survey is conducted to analyze the current situation of the cultivation of entrepreneurial ability of engineering graduate students in China,and use this to review the current entrepreneurial education of engineering graduate students,and reveal its problems and causes.Based on the typical experience of Stanford University and the University of Waterloo in cultivating students' entrepreneurial ability in graduate education for engineering graduates,based on the perspective of cultivating entrepreneurial ability of students,this paper proposes an improvement path and guarantee system for entrepreneurship education for graduate students in engineering.This article proposes that engineering graduates' entrepreneurial ability includes four dimensions: self-management ability,organizational leadership ability,technological innovation ability and market grasp ability.The survey found that engineering graduates' entrepreneurial ability is deficient mainly in technology realization ability,product application ability,opportunity identification ability,opportunity development ability,strategy setting ability,market development ability and fund raising ability.Starting from these issues,and taking care of entrepreneurship education,the current outstanding problems of entrepreneurship education are: one-sided understanding of entrepreneurial ability,lack of clarity in the goals of entrepreneurship education;the separation of professional education from entrepreneurship education,the disadvantages of the curriculum system;imbalance in capacity development,and the result of a single teaching method;the disconnect between theoretical learning and practical application,the dilemma of entrepreneurial support systems,etc.The causes of the problem include a narrow understanding of the concept of entrepreneurship education,the solidification of the training model dominated by the postgraduate academic education paradigm,and obstacles to the management system.The outstanding experience of engineering graduate entrepreneurship education in foreign high-level universities to cultivate students' entrepreneurial ability is reflected in the educational philosophy of equal emphasis on scientific research and entrepreneurship,embedding entrepreneurship cultivation in the graduate student training process,attracting external forces to participate and forming effective interactions;providing guidance and service to support students' the development of entrepreneurial ability.Based on this,this article proposes to establish a broad-spectrum entrepreneurship education concept,take entrepreneurial ability as an important goal for student development,build a curriculum system that integrates professional education and entrepreneurship education,and build a variety of teaching and practice methods to advance the improvement of entrepreneurship education for engineering graduate students,and build guarantee mechanisms such as guidance and encouragement mechanisms,internal and external coordination mechanisms,and support mechanisms.
