The rapid development of information technology such as the Internet and computers has been facilitating changes in school education.The geography curriculum standards(2017)advocate self-learning,collaborative-learning,and inquiry-based learning to foster the application of information technology,because the new theme-driven curriculum standards require the teaching content should be contextualized and students' training goals be attained.With many features such as integration and openness,the theme teaching,a feasible teaching method to implement the new curriculum,emphasizes that learning should be simulated in rich teaching contexts.However,guided by the traditional cognitive concepts,the theme teaching attaches too much importance on the classroom,cooperative learning and information resource and so on,which mostly drives from practical experience and lacks certain theoretical guidance,so it is difficult to adapt to the characteristics of the era that the teaching environment in the information society featuring openness.Therefore,with the help of previous researches,this thesis is meant to seek greater complementarity between theme teaching,basic connotation of the new curriculum standards and main characteristics of the distributed cognition theory.This thesis aims to apply a new cognition theory,distributed cognition theory,into geography theme teaching as a way to construct a new type of teaching model and to explore effective teaching approaches under a new round of curriculum reform.Followed by the distributed cognition theory,and take discipline traits,content features,and subjectivity as principles,this thesis proposes a new geography teaching model based on the distributed cognition theory.The functional objectives in this model include acquisition of the subject knowledge and the comprehensive development of students.The three respects should be analyzed: the construction of learning community,information technology and the teaching content.When it comes to the operation procedure,firstly,present the subject,define the task,and organize the research activities;secondly,carry out interactive learning,expand the subject-related content;thirdly,implement extension learning.All these will make distributed cognitive theory and geography theme teaching deeply intertwined.At last,designing a comparative experiment between traditional model and this one to test the actual teaching effect through case study and investigation.An analysis of the research data found that this model can help students master the knowledge of geography,develop their ability to analyze,raise their awareness of cooperation,communications and tools.There is no easy fix to student's comprehensive development such as cooperative ability and information literacy,sothe realization of the functional objectives of this model under the long-term teaching practice is the future research direction.
