At present,a large number of labor forces in rural areas are shifting to cities and towns, causing the problem of left-behind children in rural areas.Left-behind children in rural areas face a series of problems such as lack of family affection and improper education.Among them, the problem of extracurricular reading habits education is particularly prominent. The formation of good extracurricular reading habits can not only prevent rural left-behind children from dropping out, crimes and other problems, but also gain knowledge, increase wisdom, and improve abilities, thereby promoting their healthy and happy growth. This research relies on the "Yong Xin County Minor Protection Project",mainly targeting left-behind children in S Village,Yong Xin County,Jiang Xi Province.Using qualitative research methods, based on social support theory and social learning theory,in-depth research on the cultivation of rural left-behind children's extracurricular reading habits. The study found that the problems of rural left-behind children's extracurricular reading habits are manifested in the blindness of extracurricular reading content and low reading interest;insufficient extracurricular reading planning and lack of extracurricular reading support networks;insufficient extracurricular reading methods and low reading effects. At the same time, the researchers found that the main reasons for these problems are the lack of family extracurricular reading atmosphere and insufficient family extracurricular reading support;their own extracurricular reading awareness deviation and insufficient action ability;school extracurricular reading education neglect;and the unfavorable extracurricular reading environment in rural areas. To this end,the researchers analyzed that it is feasible and necessary to use the methods and skills of group work to cultivate the extracurricular reading habits of rural left-behind children. The specific practical process starts from six aspects: extracurricular reading awareness, selection of extracurricular reading materials, basic methods of extracurricular reading, extracurricular reading willpower, extracurricular reading planning, and extracurricular reading support network. After the intervention of group work, the group members' understanding of extracurricular reading has undergone positive changes, which has promoted the formation of good extracurricular reading behavior.Research shows that group work can stimulate the interest of group members in extracurricular reading, enhance the effect of extracurricular reading, and build an extracurricular reading support network in which group members participate, and improve the ability of extracurricular reading activities. However,in the process of research, the author also encountered the dilemma of the formation of extracurricular reading habits. One is the unfavorable influence of the reading environment;the other is the unfavorable influence of Internet popularization;the third is the influence of the personality and psychology of rural left-behind children. Therefore, the work of this group inevitably has limitations in cultivating extracurricular reading habits.
