Singapore and China have similarities in terms of culture and education,its education level has ranked among the top in the world.Actively drawing on Singapore's successful experience will help China's education reform.Singapore's university entrance examination is the Singapore Cambridge General Education Advanced Certificate Examination(GCE A-Level Examination).It is jointly conducted by the ministry of education(MOE),the Singapore examinations assessment board(SEAB)and University of Cambridge Local Examination Syndicate(UCLES).And it is held once a year like our national college entrance examination.Based on the previous research,this article mainly researched the H1 yearly General Paper Examination Questions of GCE A-Level Examination in the past ten years,combined with Singapore's education background,examination system and examination outline.This article reviews and researches on the General Paper's examination requirements,test paper structure,question types,content,and abilities examined,and compared them with China's new curriculum standard college entrance examination papers.The first chapter mainly studies the fundamental characteristics of Singapore's basic education and the system,nature and purpose of Singapore's university entrance examination.The characteristics of Singapore's basic education are reflected in two levels.The first is that Singapore's basic education implements a meticulous fluid separation system.According to the strengths and interests of students,they are diverted to schools of different levels or different natures suitable for their development.The other is the "English+mother tongue" bilingual education policy,that is,using English as a common language,students of different language sources must learn their own mother tongue on the premise of unified learning of English.The Singapore University Admissions Test adopts the Cambridge Higher Education Certificate Examination Standard.After undergoing many reforms,it has now formed a flexible admissions system,based on the GCE test results,each university can recruit students independently combining its own characteristics and requirements.independent admissions.From the perspective of the nature of the test,Singapore's A-level test is a standard test,the purpose of which is to test whether the student has the qualification to enter the university and has the corresponding learning ability after entering the university.However,China's college entrance examination is a selective examination,which aims to select the best from the same group of candidates,it is a high-stakes elimination examination.The second and third chapters mainly analyze the structure and question type of the General Paper examination questions in Singapore,and compare it with the Chinese paper of China's college entrance examination.The Singapore General Paper examination questions consists of Paper 1 and Paper 2.Paper 1 is the Composition part,there are 12 questions in total,students only need to choose one to discuss,the total score is 50 points,of which 20 are language usage.Paper 2 is the reading part,all of which are subjective questions,with a total of 50 points,of which 15 marks will be awarded for students' use of language.Composition and reading in Singapore are tested separately,usually at different times on the same day.The Chinese examination questions for the college entrance examination in China include five parts:modern Chinese reading,classical Chinese reading,ancient poetry reading,language use,and composition.There are 150 points in total,of which 60 for written.The composition and reading scores in Singapore are graded separately for content and language use,and the students' final scores are the sum of the two.In general,the types of questions in the college entrance examination in China are rich and diverse,combining subjective and objective questions,while Singapore has a single type of question,which is mainly short answer and discussion.The fourth chapter sorts out and compares the content and ability inspected in the college entrance examination papers of Singapore and China.In terms of content,Singapore pays more attention to the social economy and international politics and other practical aspects,while China pays more attention to the sentimental aspects,such as the philosophies of life and home and country feelings.In the ability dimension,Singapore composition focuses on the students' critical thinking ability,while Chinese composition focuses on the students' material mining ability and article innovation ability.With the help of Zhu Xinhua's "Six-Level Reading Ability Evaluation System",the author evaluated the abilities tested in reading questions in China and Singapore.It is found that the reading questions in both countries focus on examining the ability of"reorganization"(analysis and synthesis).The examination of the three levels of interpretation,stretching,and evaluation is quite different.China attaches more importance to evaluation ability,while Singapore pays more attention to inference ability,and the ability to explain hierarchies is rarely tested in our country.Chapter Five,Combined the proposition characteristics of the Singapore General Paper test questions,based on the current status of the Chinese college entrance examination questions,the author puts forward three suggestions for the Chinese college entrance examination language propositions:the first is closely link with reality and focus on global issues;the second is to expand the scope of the composition and focus on critical thinking;the third is to evaluate the language and content separately.
