Psychological reactance abounds in adolescents.It is an important indicator of physical and mental health of adolescents.It is a kind of internal psychological tendency or motivational state,which is manifested as confrontational emotions and behaviors.It has been proved that the big five personality is a key factor affecting psychological reactance of adolescents.Junior school students are in an important period of self-awareness awakening,establishment of identity and life meaning exploration.The evidence shows that self-concept clarity and meaning in life are good subjecti indicators to predict individuals' mental health.Therefore,based on the theory of trait reactance,this study explored the influence of junior high school students' big five personality traits on psychological reactance,as well as the mechanism of self-concept clarity and meaning in life.This study consists of two sub-studies,using the Chinese version of HPRS,PIL,SCCS and the five-factor personality questionnaire for survey.The relationship between the big five personalities and reverse psychology was investigated by questionnaire from the horizontal and vertical perspectives.Study 1 is a cross-sectional study,taking 475 students in grade 7 and 8 of two middle schools as objects.We established a chain mediation model to investigate the role of self-concept clarity and meaning in life in the influence of big five personality on psychological reactance.Study 2 is a longitudinal study,which follows 427 students in grade 7 in a middle school,and conducts two surveys at an interval of 6 months,to explore the interaction between big five personality and psychological reactance at two time points by establishing a cross-lag model.Based on the results,the following conclusions are drawn:(1)Psychological reactance self-concept clarity and meaning in life of junior high school students are at a medium level.(2)In gender,there are significant differences in the emotional responses of the restrictive choices of psychological reactance,and meaning in life,sense of autonomy,avoidance and self-concept clarity,and male students are significantly higher than female students.In grade,there were significant differences in the future expectation of meaning in life and self-concept clarity.In terms of only-child,there are significant differences in meaning in life,enthusiasm for life and life goals,and the only-child is significantly higher than the non-only-child,and the only-child is significantly lower than the non-only-child in rebellious opinions or suggestions of others.(3)Self-concept clarity and meaning in life is significantly negatively correlated with psychological reactance,neuroticism,positively correlated with extraversion openness,agreeableness and conscientiousness.Self-concept clarity is significantly positively correlated with sense of meaning in life.Psychological reactance was significantly positively correlated with neuroticism,and negatively correlated with extraversion,openness,agreeableness and conscientiousness.(4)Self-concept clarity and meaning in life play a chain mediating role in the positive influence of neuroticism on psychological reactance.Self-concept clarity and meaning in life play a chain mediating role in the negative influence of conscientiousness on psychological reactance.(5)The level of psychological reactance increased significantly in the two time points.The cross-lag model shows that neuroticism can predict psychological reactance after six months.There is a two-way prediction relationship between conscientiousness and psychological reactance.Agreeableness can't predict psychological reactance after six months.This study has a certain enlightening effect on the development of mental health education in schools,that is,through teaching and activities to enhance students'self-knowledge,to improve their meaning in life,so as to effectively prevent the possible psychological behavior problems caused by the psychological reactance.
