The Construction Logic Of Offensive Realism Theory And Its Criticism

The research on offensive realism in academia at home and abroad has been going on for many years,and some research results have also appeared.Although most domestic scholars hold a critical attitude towards offensive realism theories,these criticisms are mostly concentrated on some viewpoints of offensive realism theories,but lack constructive and academic analysis of offensive realism theories.This article attempts to start from the ideological origins of offensive realism theory and clarify the inheritance and development of offensive realism theory to classical realism theory and neorealism theory.While studying the classic literature,it is necessary to deconstruct and restore it appropriately,so as to analyze the state's behavior mode and internal logic under the perspective of offensive realism theory.Only on the basis of a full understanding of the theoretical origins and internal logic of offensive realism can it be possible to criticize it.Therefore,this article first compares the mainstream international relations theory with the offensive realism theory.Through internal comparison of realism schools,the uniqueness and status of offensive realism theory is clarified;through the comparison between neoliberal institutionalism and constructivism and offensive realism theories,the differences in viewpoints among the three theoretical schools of international relations are clarified;through the comparison between the British school and the offensive realism theory,it is clear that the European theory and offensive realism theory are different in system and method.In the process of comparing the above theories with offensive realism theories,the process of discovering differences in their opinions is also a process of criticizing offensive realism theories.After other schools of international relations theory have criticized the specific viewpoints of offensive realism,how to reconstruct a theory that can provide a stronger explanatory power to China's current foreign policy is the focus of this article.This article uses Cox's “critical theory” to reinterpret the offensive realism theory,and uses the core viewpoints and ideas of the “critical theory” to deconstruct the theoretical assumptions and methodology of offensive realism,summarize the factors that influence the country's offensive strategy in the “critical theory”,and make deductions on this basis,and reconstruct the offensive realism theory that incorporates the “critical theory” color.Finally,through the interpretation of offensive realism theory and other international relations theory schools' criticism of offensive realism theory,and based on this,the offensive realism theory is tested.Although the research on offensive realism in domestic and foreign academic circles has never stopped,there are still periods of peaks and troughs.In recent years,international politics is gradually returning to the political interaction of major powers and geopolitical games.Therefore,the research on the theory of offensive realism has picked up again,and many scholars are willing to adopt the theoretical methods of offensive realism to analyze the current international political phenomena.In this context,in-depth exploration of the construction logic of offensive realism theory and criticism of it has strong practical significance,and it is also conducive to the construction of an international political theory system that conforms to Chinese characteristics.
