Marcus Tullius Cicero was the most prestigious orator, educator, lawyer and politician in ancient Rome.He is the representative of the development of Roman oratory education. His natural law thought plays an important role in the history of western legal thought. He incorporated legal knowledge into the education of orator and creatively proposed the theoretical system of legal education thought. It had a profound impact on the prosperity of legal education in the Roman Empire and the development of higher legal education in the West in later generations. This article is divided into three chapters. The first chapter analyzes the Era context in which Cicero's legal education thought emerged. To understand the legal education thought of Cicero,we should consider the overall context of the society and culture at the time. The political and economic environment of the late Roman Republic raises realistic demands for legal education.Rome's developed statute culture and independent jurist class provided the cultural foundation for legal education thought. The practice of law teaching in private schools and rhetoric schools provides a realistic reference for his thought.Cicero's personal education and lawyer's work experience are closely related to his legal education ideas. The second chapter introduces the theoretical basis of Cicero's legal education thought from two aspects. He believes that there are two aspects of human nature: uniqueness and sociality.Education must respect both natures. Therefore he advocated the education ideas of naturalism and humanism. At the same time, legal education must also consider the characteristics of the legal discipline itself.Legal rhetoric,as an important method to achieve the validity of legal argument, directly influences Cicero's ideas and methods on legal teaching. The main content of the third chapter of Cicero's legal education thought is divided into three parts: teleology, epistemology and methodology.Legal education occupies an important position in Cicero's entire educational thought. He takes legal education as a deeper cultural choice than oratory education, and interprets his ideal image of a legist. In order to achieve this goal,he paid particular attention to the education of legal knowledge and ability, and tried to build professional education on the basis of liberal arts knowledge and ethics education. In the practice of legal teaching,he adhered to the teaching philosophy of combining systematic teaching with theoretical practice, and proposed teaching methods such as case teaching and simulated court.
