Moses Hess is a German ideologist who, after Hegel and Feuerbach, exerted an important influence on young Marx.Hess' Monetary Theory explains the nature of human beings, money, alienation and human liberation, which had a marked impact upon Marx's early thoughts. This paper aims at straightening out the relationship between Moses Hess' Monetary Theory and the formation of Marx's early thoughts, therefore confirms the historical position of Hess and thoroughly explores Marx's early ideological change.By analyzing Moses Hess' Monetary Theory, this paper points out its significant influence on Marx's early Historical materialism thoughts and Communist ideology. On the Historical materialism thoughts' side,Hess' Monetary Theory proved that monetary relation is the cause of human alienation and transformed traditional theory with the philosophy of action.Enlightened by this,Marx developed the alienation theory into the area of productive relations and pushed traditional philosophy into reality. On the communist thoughts' side,Hess put forward some viewpoints such as collective activity is the nature of individuals and capitalism is actually a self-interested society. It was on this basis Marx developed the study of capitalism into the productive relations change by taking the nature of human into practice, therefore further completed the Communist Ideology. However,as Hess' class stand and philosophical limitation,Marx gradually disagrees with him and eventually surpassed him by improving the Historical materialism thoughts and communist ideology.
