"Tower Of Wishes" (excerpt) Translation Practice Report

China and Russia are good neighbors,friends and partners.The 70 th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Russia and China has brought more opportunities for humanistic exchanges between the two countries,and there are many ways for our people to get in touch with Russian literature,among which children’s literature,as an important component of Russian literature,plays a significant role in cultural exchanges between the two countries.The source text of this translation practice report "The Tower of Wishes" is selected from the collection of fairy tales entitled "Beautiful Valley Fairy Tales" by the famous Russian writer Daria Dontsova.In recent years,Daria Dontsova has been writing children’s literature,and through her fairy tales the author hopes to help children learn something about courage and love.Fairy tales have their own unique linguistic characteristics in different from adult literature.The translator understands the stylistic and linguistic characteristics that need to be grasped in the translation of children’s literature.Children’s phonetics,interjections,onomatopoeia,reduplicated words and idioms are appropriately utilized to enhance the musicality,rhythm and readability of the text and stimulate the interest of young readers,taking children’s reading interests and acceptance characteristics as the starting point.In addition,translation methods including addition,omission and conversion of parts of speech are employed to make the target text better conform to the Chinese expression habits.On the one hand,the translation and study of the text will contribute to the advancement of Russian children’s literature research in China,as well as assist Chinese children’s literature writers in expanding their creative viewpoints.On the other hand,the translator is able to develop his own translation ability and build the groundwork for future translation work.
