According to data from The Supreme People's Court of China, violent crime was one of the crimes with the largest number and proportion. In 2019,violent crime accounted for more than 50% of China's criminal cases.Studies have found that behavioral inhibition can use to explain the aggressive behavior of impulsive violent offenders. The present studies found that negative emotions would disturb the ability of behavioral inhibition mainly on the component of N2 and P3.N2 is the early stage of behavioral inhibition, mainly reflecting conflict monitoring, while P3 is the late stage of behavioral inhibition, mainly reflecting the inhibition process itself.Previous studies investigated the impact of the individual's implicit and explicit processing of negative emotions on behavioral inhibition, using negative-emotion pictures, faces and words as stimulus materials, instead of exploring the ability of behavioral inhibition in the state of negative emotions.Violent crimes bear the lion's share of crimes.Impulsive violent offenders was typically provoked to attack under anger, rather than implicitly processing of anger-related stimuli. Therefore,it has more ecological validity to explore the behavior inhibition of impulsive violent offenders in the state of induced anger.Based on the limitations of previous studies, this study explored the influence of anger induction on impulsive violent offenders' behavior inhibition and its neural mechanism through three series of experiments.Preliminary experiments set out to investigate the effectiveness of pictures, film clips, autobiographical recollection and success-failure manipulation tasks in inducing anger.Using three indicators of elicitation(intensity, unicity and time duration). In experiment 1,We recruited impulsive violent offenders and normal controls. And we matched the two groups in terms of age, education levels, and trait anger scores. We used film clips to induce participants' anger, and took a two-choice oddball task to measure behavioral inhibition. The two-choice oddball task consisted of a standard stimulus with a high probability(80%)and a deviated stimulus with a low probability(20%).In experiment 2,we used ERP technology to explore the temporal characteristics of the influence of anger induction on impulsive violent offenders' behavior inhibition.Like precious researches, this study also focused on the component of N2 and P3.The results of this study are as follows:(1)The film clips had the best effect on inducing anger, which had high intensity, good unicity, and long duration.(2)Behavioral results showed that participants responded more slowly to the deviant stimulus than to the standard stimulus. This suggested that the task could successfully induce behavioral inhibition effects. In addition,In addition, the difference between the deviated stimulus and the standard stimulus response time in the control group was significantly longer than that in the neutral group, and this phenomenon was more obvious in the impulsive violent offenders.(3)ERP results found that in control group,P3 amplitudes was no difference between anger and neutral state. However,in impulsive violent offenders, anger lead to larger P3 amplitudes than neutral. This suggested that individuals had difficulty suppressing dominant response in anger. The difference of behavioral inhibition between the impulsive violent offenders and the control group was mainly reflected in the P3 component.
