Mono-valent nouns refer to nouns that are semantically dependent, and are usually syntactically required to co-occur with their dependent components, such as "father","arm" and "elasticity".The "VP+de" structure containing mono-valent nouns is a relatively special sub-category in the "VP+de" structure.Because of the inclusion of mono-valent nouns, the transferred designation of this structure shows more complex characteristics. This paper takes the "VP+de" structure containing mono-valent nouns as the research object, uses the corpus method and the comparison method, and on the basis of the syntactic analysis of this type of structure, classifies its transferred designation, and explains its special referential phenomenon from multiple perspectives.Apart from the introduction, this thesis is divided into three chapters. The first chapter analyzes the "VP+de" structure containing mono-valent nouns from the perspective of syntax. The analysis found that the “VP+de”structure with only one monovalent noun is relatively common, and the typical one is the “VP+de”structure in which the mono-valent noun is located in the subject or object position. In a few cases,mono-valent nouns and prepositions form prepositional phrases that appear in the adverbial and complement positions of the “VP+de”structure. In addition, there are a small number of “VP+de”structures that contain multiple mono-valent nouns in language facts. The second chapter analyzes the "VP+de" structure containing mono-valent nouns from the perspective of transferred designation type.First of all, from the perspective of semantics,it analyzes the type of argument that the structure refers to,and points out that the predicate argument that the structure refers to often overlaps with the mono-valent noun argument, and the structure can also refer to the noun argument alone.Furthermore,it analyzes the ambiguous index type of transferred designation of the structure, and points out that although the mono-valent noun brings a new valence component, there are still cases where there is only one meaning when the transferred designation of this structure occurs;secondly, the transferred designation of this structure is analyzed from the perspective of pragmatics, points out that the referential types of the structure are influenced by the specific context, and are rich and diverse;finally, the elaboration types of the structural referencing are studied from the perspective of deeper cognition, the image schema of the mono-valent noun is set,and points out that the structure can elaborates both verb substructure and noun substructure. The third chapter analyzes the factors that affect the transferred designation of the "VP+de" structure containing mono-valent nouns from the perspectives of syntax, pragmatics and cognition. The study found that the syntactic position and thematic role of the mono-valent noun, the valency and semantics of the predicate, the textual context, the situational context, the typicality and salience of the mono-valent noun, etc.will all affect the transferred designation of "VP+de" structure containing the mono-valent noun. Therefore,it is impossible to make an accurate prediction for the transferred designation of this structure, but it can be explained from different angles. This chapter also conducts a more in-depth study on the category of mono-valent nouns, and points out that mono-valent nouns are a prototype category with internal differences in the typicality and open boundaries.
