Postmodernism has been described as a form of philosophical skepticism and an anti-foundationalist movement that undermines the foundational and grand narrative authority, accepted wisdom, and cultural and political norms of the Western intellectual tradition;dismantles the center-seeking tendencies and infrastructures of the Western intellectual tradition;subverts existing structures and rigid systems of power;and exposes the inner logic of the Western intellectual tradition. After World War II,appearing in various disciplines in the world at the time, painting played an important role in the postmodernist movement.By deconstructing the language and form of painting, juxtaposing various styles, and returning to the traditional allegorical nature of postmodernism, postmodern artists have given the works of painting an "indeterminate" character in terms of form, style and meaning. This paper focuses on the characteristics of "uncertainty" in the creation of postmodern painting, covering three subsections.Firstly,it compares the background of postmodernism and introduces the painting in the postmodern context.Secondly, the "uncertainty" in postmodern painting is discussed from three perspectives: the structure of form, the juxtaposition of style, and the return and turn of allegoricality. Finally, the author takes "uncertainty" in post-modernist painting as a methodology of my own painting, and elaborates on its application and expression in my painting, gradually exploring, borrowing and creating, with the aim of forming my own painting language.
