The Mingzhong was the first capital built in the Ming Dynasty, and the Drum Tower,as a relatively complete auxiliary building in the middle capital, has extremely important value.According to documentary records, the Drum Tower was built in the eighth year of Hongwu, located on the east side of Yunji Street on the secondary axis, opposite to the bell tower. The bell tower was eventually destroyed by war,and only the foundation of the drum tower was preserved. The Drum Tower building in Mingzhongdu was restored in 1998,and the majestic and magnificent style of that year can be vaguely seen.On the basis of combing the historical evolution of the Drum Tower of Mingzhong Capital, this article believes that its important value has not been fully demonstrated,so it focuses on the analysis of its value from three aspects.First,Mingzhongdu Drum Tower is the earliest,largest,highest-standard and relatively well-preserved physical relic during the Ming and Qing Dynasties. It created the system of the Ming and Qing Drum Towers and has extremely important cultural relic value.Second, the position of the Bell and Drum Towers in the Mingzhong Capital is clear. It is the only existing pair of Bell and Drum Towers in the Ming and Qing Dynasties that can embody the "East Drum West Bell" system. On the one hand, this positional relationship helps us deeply understand the cultural connotation of the layout of the Bell and Drum Towers in the capital;Thirdly, the characters and patterns on the Drum Tower of Mingzhong Capital are very unique, reflecting the integration of Confucianism,Buddhism, and Taoism, and have a great influence on Ming Dynasty politics. In particular, the square Sheng pattern, which hangs high above the tower, quickly became one of the most popular auspicious patterns in the Ming and Qing Dynasties. From temples to folk,it has a far-reaching influence and has become an iconic symbol of Chinese traditional culture. In addition, this paper analyzes the problems existing in the main building and surrounding environment of the Drum Tower of Mingzhong City through field investigation, and puts forward some reasonable suggestions on the protection and utilization.
