Research On The Application Of Statistical Methods In Econometric Stylistics

Statistical research on language is one of the important contents of metrological stylistic research.Traditional stylistic research is often based on personal introspection,that is,the sense of language,so as to investigate the vocabulary,sentences,grammar,etc.of the language,and then conclude the author's style characteristics.However,the study of metrological stylistics uses mathematical statistics to study the metrological characteristics of writers' texts,and the conclusions drawn are verifiable.At the same time,metrological feature data can be analyzed and inferred,and the writer's specific style characteristics can be revealed through statistical data.The development of metrological stylistics has made some research results and progress so far,and the application of statistical methods has also formed a relatively complete system,but there are still some problems.First,statistical methods are mainly limited to simple descriptive statistics,such as frequency,mean,variance,and standard deviation,while inferential statistics and statistical models such as hypothesis testing,analysis of variance,text clustering,etc.are used less;Second,the application of statistical methods is mechanical and blind,and there is still a lack of in-depth research on the applicability and pertinence of different statistical methods.Third,the research results mostly verify the judgment of traditional stylistics on the author's style,and there are few unique innovations and new discoveries.As a female writer with a pivotal position in the Chinese literary world,Zhang Ailing's research on the style of her work has always been an academic hotspot,but the following problems still exists in the past research: First,most of the relevant research is to select some representative works for thinking.The subject,character description,narrative,and artistic expression techniques are analyzed in dimensions.However,from the perspective of linguistics,there are few studies on quantitative analysis of all the novels of Zhang Ailing in the three periods using statistical methods.Second,the analytical research from the perspective of linguistics mainly uses the method of descriptive analysis,staying on simple frequency statistics,lacking necessary inferential statistics and statistical model analysis and research,and insufficient application of data quantitative indicators.Third,there is controversy over whether the style of Zhang Ailing's later novels has “changed from prosperous to simple”.Existing studies mostly analyze the subject of thought,character description,narrative,and artistic expression techniques.No statistical method has been seen yet.Analyze the measurement characteristics of the three periods to prove the study of style changes.In response to the above-mentioned problems,this article has carried out relevant research:(1)Research on the status quo of the application of statistical methods in the field of domestic metrological stylistics.This research is based on the CNKI full-text database of journals and the full-text database of master's and doctoral dissertations.More than 300 papers involving metrological stylistics have been collected for bibliometric analysis.In terms of the annual number distribution performance,it shows a clear increasing trend and stage characteristics.Divided into initial stage(1985-2000),steady growth stage(2001-2010)and surge stage(2011-2020);according to the theme distribution statistics,it is found that the highest proportion of journal papers and master and doctoral papers are translations fields,followed by literary works research,style research and writer judgment research.(2)A systematic summary of the principles and application examples of statistical methods commonly used in the study of metrological stylistics.Comprehensively sort out and summarize the principles and application examples of statistical methods commonly used in the study of metrological stylistics,including frequency,mean,variance and standard deviation in descriptive statistics,hypothesis testing and analysis of variance in inferential statistics,and statistical models text clustering,etc.Statistics are distributed according to statistical methods,and a ranking list of commonly used statistical methods in domestic metrological stylistics is summarized.The most frequently used statistical method is frequency statistics,followed by hypothesis testing,N-gram grammar and text clustering,which can reflect the choice of domestic scholars to a certain extent and the references and tendencies of statistical methods.(3)Application of descriptive statistics in Zhang Ailing's NovelsThis study uses frequency statistics in the descriptive statistics method to count many measurement characteristics in the four dimensions of Zhang Ailing's novels in the three periods: readability,vocabulary richness,special words,and special sentence patterns,in order to resolve whether the style of American novels "changed from prosperous to simple".(4)Application of inferential statistics in Zhang Ailing's novelsAfter obtaining the usage frequency of the measurement features of Zhang Ailing's novels in the three periods,the analysis of variance is given priority to analyze whether there are significant differences in the measurement features of the three periods,and the measurement features that meet the test of homogeneity of variance are analyzed for variance;the test of homogeneity of variance is not met.For the measurement characteristics of,the normal distribution test is performed.If the normal distribution is satisfied,the parameter hypothesis test is performed,and the non-parametric hypothesis test is performed if it does not.(5)Application of statistical models in Zhang Ailing's novelsA statistical model is a method of inferring based on the relationship between components or texts in a mathematical model.The most widely used statistical model is text clustering.In this study,hierarchical clustering and divisional clustering were carried out based on the measurement characteristics with significant differences obtained by inferential statistical analysis,and the clustering effect was good,which once again verified the reliability and validity of the conclusions of inferential statistical methods.In summary,this study summarizes the common statistical methods in the field of domestic metrological stylistics,systematically analyzes and summarizes the application of statistical methods,and then comprehensively uses descriptive statistics,inferential statistics,and statistical model methods to analyze Zhang Ailing's fifteen years in three periods.The style analysis of this novel shows that the consistent style feature of Zhang Ailing's novels in the three periods is the use of color words.The use of color words in various cool and warm tones gives readers a strong visual impact.Of course,there have also been some changes in style.There are significant differences in the seven measurement characteristics of average paragraph length,word length change,symbolic character ratio,four-character words,repetitive words,adverbs,and exclamatory sentences in the Shanghai period and the American period.Among them,the average paragraph length in the American period was reduced,the readability was improved,and the frequency of repetitive words,adverbs and exclamations was reduced,and repetitive words with musical beauty and rhythm,as well as adverbs and adjectives that modify verbs and adjectives,were used less frequently.These four characteristics support the view that the American style "changes from prosperous to simple";however,the degree of change in word length and the ratio of symbolic symbols have increased,and the vocabulary has become richer and diverse.Fourcharacter words has increased,showing profound literary attainments and classical meaning,reflecting the profound writing skills accumulated by the writer over the years,and reflecting the rich style characteristics.Therefore,this study believes that it is not possible to simply summarize the style of American novels "changed from prosperous to simple".At the same time,it was also discovered that the internal style of Shanghai had changed,which can be divided into two parts: early Shanghai and late Shanghai,which have not been discovered by traditional style studies.
